William & Mary Tribe +1 -- Over/Under: 148
The Northeastern Huskies will travel to Kaplan Arena to take on the William & Mary Tribe this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Northeastern Huskies snapped their 2-game losing streak and improved to 8-8 (2-2 CAA) on the season after defeating the Elon Phoenix, 81-70 in OT, this past Thursday. Northeastern allowed Elon to fight back and for OT after the Huskies held a 40-28 halftime lead, however, Northeastern had no trouble wrapping up the victory after starting overtime on an 8-0 run. Northeastern held Elon to just 28.0% shooting from beyond the arc and won the turnover battle by a 16-10 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Huskies was Vasa Pusica who had 19 points, 7 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals.
On the season, Northeastern is averaging 74.3 ppg on 47.8% shooting from the field. The Huskies are averaging 9.1 three-pointers per game on 38.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Northeastern has been led by Vasa Pusica (15.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 4.9 apg, 1.1 spg), Jordan Roland (15.1 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.3 spg), Donnell Gresham Jr. (10.9 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.4 spg), and Bolden Brace (9.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2.6 apg).
Defensively, Northeastern is allowing their opponents to average 73.8 ppg on 47.0% shooting from the field. The Huskies have a rebound margin of 0.2 and a turnover margin of -1.3.
The William & Mary Tribe dropped to 7-10 (3-2 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the Hofstra Pride, 93-90 in OT, this past Thursday. William & Mary fought back from a 12-point deficit early in the 2nd half to force the overtimes, however, couldn’t fight back after a pair of Justin Wright-Foreman FT’s for the Pride gave Hofstra a 91-87 lead with :18 seconds left in regulation. William & Mary shot 45.3% from the field, however, lost the turnover battle by a 20-12 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Tribe was Nathan Knight who had a double-double with 31 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, & 4 blocks.
On the season, William & Mary is averaging 74.7 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field. The Tribe are averaging 8.5 three-pointers per game on 33.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, William & Mary has been led by Nathan Knight (19.4 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 3.2 apg), Justin Pierce (16.1 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.0 spg), Matt Milon (12.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.5 apg), and Chase Audige (9.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.2 spg).
Defensively, William & Mary is allowing their opponents to average 77.5 ppg on 45.8% shooting from the field. The Tribe have a rebound margin of -0.6 and a turnover margin of -2.2.
The Huskies are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record. The Tribe are 37-13-2 ATS in their last 52 games following a straight up loss, however, just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Northeastern is solid offensive team as they rank 49th in FG%, 40th in 3P-FG%, and 61st in FT%, however, the defense has been disappointing this season as they come into match-up ranked T-237th in scoring defense & 318th in defensive FG%. William & Mary offensive isn’t as explosive as we’ve seen in the past, however, it’s still respectable as it ranks 159th in scoring offense & 95th in FG%. The Tribe continue to struggle defensively as they rank just 300th in scoring defense, 308th in turnover margin, and 288th in defensive FG%.
Northeastern has struggled a bit as of late, however, this is a team that has much talent as any CAA team and will be one of the tougher teams in the CAA by seasons end. William & Mary is a tough place to play, however, as I don’t see how the Tribe will be able to slow down Pusica & Gresham Jr, I’m taking Northeastern to cover this small road spread.
