The Towson Tigers improved to 5-8 (1-0 CAA) on the season after defeating the Elon Phoenix, 77-60, this past Friday night. Towson went into halftime trailing by a 27-24 margin, however, was outstanding on the offensive end in the 2nd half and had no trouble pulling away after an 11-0 Tigers run gave Towson a 67-50 lead with 4:21 left in regulation. Towson shot 45.8% from the field and 58.8% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Tigers was Brian Fobbs who had 21 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and a block.
On the season, Towson is averaging 68.1 ppg on 43.3% shooting from the field. The Tigers are averaging 5.8 three-pointes per game on 34.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Towson has been led by Brian Fobbs (16.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 1.2 apg), Tobias Howard (10.2 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 2.9 apg), Nakye Sanders (8.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg), and Dennis Tunstall (5.3 ppg, 8.4 rpg).
Defensively, Towson is allowing their opponents to average 69.5 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Tigers have a rebound margin of 7.1 and a turnover margin of -3.1.
The William & Mary Tribe improved to 5-8 (1-0 CAA) on the season after defeating the James Madison Dukes, 79-74, this past Friday night. In a tight back and forth game, William & Mary was able to pull away late after a 5-0 run gave the Tribe a 75-70 lead with 1:30 left in regulation. William & Mary shot 49.2% from the field and 48.0% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Tribe was Justin Pierce who had a double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals.
On the season, William & Mary is averaging 74.5 ppg on 46.8% shooting from the field. The Tribe are averaging 8.2 three-pointers per game on 32.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, William & Mary has been led by Nathan Knight (19.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.8 bpg), Justin Pierce (16.5 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.1 spg), Matt Milon (11.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.4 apg), and Chase Audige (8.8 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.2 spg).
Defensively, William & Mary is allowing their opponents to average 80.0 ppg on 47.9% shooting from the field. The Tribe have a rebound margin of -1.6 and a turnover margin of -2.2.
The Tigers are 6-16 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win and just 5-14 ATS in their last 19 road games. The Tribe are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Sunday games and 31-15-2 ATS in their last 48 games following an ATS loss.
Towson has won 3 of their last 4 games, however, the Tigers are going to struggle picking up wins once the competition gets tougher as the Tigers rank just 303rd in scoring offense, 242nd in FG%, and T-320 in three-pointers made per game. William & Mary is once again an offensive focused team as they rank 45th in assists per game & 101st in FG%, however, they continue to struggle on the defensive end as they rank just 320th in scoring defense. William & Mary is generally a tough team to beat at home and although this is a bunch of points, I just don’t see how the Tigers keep up with the Tribe with a offense that can really struggle. Take William & Mary to cover.
