The Charleston Southern Buccaneers and the Winthrop Eagles will meet up on the college basketball court in Big South Tournament action Thursday.
Charleston Southern finished off the year with a 15-14 mark then won in the first round of the tournament Tuesday. The Buccaneers are on a three-game win streak right now, most recently taking out USC Upstate.
In the win over the Spartans, Charleston Southern’s Christian Keeling led the team on 22 points with five rebounds. Travis McConico was the only other player on the Bucs in double-figures with 19 points and six boards.
Over on the Eagles’ side, they’re fresh off an 18-11 mark during the season. The Eagles have lost three of their last four games, dropping to Gardner-Webb, Radford and Hampton during that stretch.
In the loss to the Pirates, Winthrop forward Josh Ferguson led the team on 18 points and eight rebounds. Nych Smith added 15 points and five assists for the Eagles there and Bjorn Broman and Adam Pickett each notched 14 points.
The Buccaneers are 5-0 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and 7-0 ATS in the last seven after an ATS win. Charleston Southern is 8-0 ATS in their last eight versus the Big South and 4-0 ATS in the last four versus a team with a winning straight-up record.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and 0-4 ATS in their last four overall. Winthrop is 0-4 ATS in the last four versus the Big South and 0-4 ATS in the last four neutral-site games.
The ATS trends disparity here is pretty black-and-white: Charleston Southern is on a really nice roll and the Eagles haven’t been able to do much of anything ATS over their last quartet of outings.
This should be a pretty interesting matchup and probably a relatively close game, but with the roll Charleston Southern is on I have to roll with the Buccaneers here on the cover.
