Michigan Wolverines -3 -- Over/Under: 127
The Michigan Wolverines and the Wisconsin Badgers meet in Big Ten conference college basketball action from the Kohl Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Michigan Wolverines will look to remain unbeaten after improving to 17-0 on the year following an 80-60 win over Northwestern in their last outing. Zavier Simpson led the Wolverines with 24 points on 9 of 17 shooting with 5 threes, 5 rebounds, and a team-high 4 assists along with 3 steals while Jon Teske added 17 points on 7 of 11 shooting with 3 threes, a team-high 11 rebounds, 3 steals and a pair of blocks for the double-double. Charles Matthews added 13 points on 6 of 10 shooting and Ignas Brazdeikis chipped in 11 points on 5 of 9 shooting to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Michigan in the winning effort. Brazdeikis leads Michigan in scoring with 15.6 points per game while Teske leads the Wolverines in rebounding with 6.6 rebounds per game and Simpson leads Michigan in assists with 5.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Michigan is averaging 73.6 points per game on 47.1% shooting from the field, 36.7% from 3-point range and 67.4% from the foul line this season. The Wolverines are also extremely tough on defense, giving up just 56.6 points per game, the 3rd-fewest in the nation this season.
The Wisconsin Badgers are in dire need of a win after losing back-to-back games and 4 of their last 5 games following a 64-60 loss to Maryland in their last outing. Nate Reuvers led the Badgers with 18 points on 7 of 18 shooting with 4 threes and 7 rebounds while D’Mitrik Trice added 13 points on 5 of 14 shooting with 3 threes and a team-high 5 assists. Brad Davison added 11 points with 4 assists and Ethan Happ chipped in 10 points with a team-high 8 rebounds to round out the scoring in double figures for Wisconsin in the losing effort. Happ leads the Badgers by averaging a double-double per game this season with team-leading averages of 19.4 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Wisconsin is averaging 73.9 points per game on 48.3% shooting from the field, 39.1% from behind the 3-point line and 66.2% from the foul line this season.
Michigan is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 21-7-1 ATS in their last 29 road games while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. Wisconsin is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 conference games. Michigan is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams and 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams at Wisconsin.
Points with Wisconsin at home is tempting considering that the Badgers have been a tough out in their own building. However, Wisconsin has stumbled ATS as of late, and those kinds of issues aren’t ones that you want to carry into a game against a team like Michigan as the Wolverines are once again showing signs of being one of the best, if not the best team in the country. The Wolverines also have had a lot of success against Wisconsin in recent meetings both overall and at the Kohl Center, so given Michigan’s the large sample size of Michigan’s success on the road, I’ll lay the bucket with the Wolverines in this spot.
