The Purdue Boilermakers and the Wisconsin Badgers meet in Big Ten conference college basketball action from the Kohl Center on Tuesday night.
The Purdue Boilermakers will try to join the fray in the Big Ten standings after falling to 7-8 with a 68-52 loss to Ohio State last time out. Trevion Williams leads the Boilers in scoring and rebounding with 11 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while Eric Hunter Jr. has 10.4 points and a team-high 2.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Purdue is averaging 68.6 points on 42.6% shooting from the field, 34.4% from behind the 3-point line and 66.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 62.1 points on 41.5% shooting from the field and 30.4% from the 3-point line this season. Purdue is 3-7 straight up and 2-7-1 against the spread on the road this season.
The Wisconsin Badgers will look to jump into the top spots in the Big Ten after improving to 8-6 in conference play with an 81-64 win over Nebraska last time out. Nate Reuvers leads the Badgers with 13.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as the Badgers’ lone active double-digit scorer this season while D’Mitrik Trice is averaging 9.8 points and 3.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Wisconsin is averaging 66.4 points per game on 42.3% shooting from the field, 34% from behind the arc and 75.8% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 61.8 points on 40.7% shooting from the field and 33.8% from behind the arc this season. Wisconsin is 11-1 straight up and 6-5-1 against the spread at home this season.
The home team is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and the favorite is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
I’d like to say that I’m giving the points with Purdue a look, but the problem is that I just don’t think we’re getting enough points to give Purdue a shot here. I’ve said before and I’ll say again, home dominance has been the theme of Big Ten conference play this season, and both teams have contributed to that, with Wisconsin being nearly unbeatable at home while Purdue has been abysmal on the road, winning just twice in conference play this season. I do expect a close game throughout but for the Badgers to win this one by 4-6 points, so I’ll lay the buckets with the Badgers in this one.
