The Chattanooga Mocs will travel to Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium to take on the Wofford Terriers this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The Chattanooga Mocs had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 10-11 (5-3 Southern) on the season after being defeated by the Furman Paladins, 73-58, this past Thursday. Chattanooga was overmatched on both ends of the court by the Paladins and couldn’t fight back after Furman took a 57-43 lead midway through the 2nd half. Chattanooga allowed Furman to shoot 53.7% from the field while the Mocs shot just 40.0% from the field & 23.8% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Mocs was Jerry Johnson Jr. who had 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
On the season, Chattanooga is averaging 72.6 ppg on 44.9% shooting from the field. The Mocs are averaging 9.0 three-pointers per game on 37.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Chattanooga has been led by Kevin Easley (14.7 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.0 apg), Donovann Toatley (11.4 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 3.4 apg), Ramon Vila (11.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.2 apg), and Jerry Johnson Jr. (10.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, Chattanooga is allowing their opponents to average 72.8 ppg on 45.0% shooting from the field. The Mocs have a rebound margin of -1.1 and a turnover margin of -0.9.
The Wofford Terriers won their 7th straight game and improved to 16-4 (8-0 Southern) on the season after defeating the Samford Bulldogs, 107-106 in OT, this past Thursday. Wofford had no answers on the defensive end for the Bulldogs, however, was able to force OT after Fletcher Magee hit a 3-pointers with just :08 seconds left in regulation and won the game in dramatic fashion after Storm Murphy hit a game-winning jumper as time expired. Wofford shot 55.4% from the field and won despite allowing Samford to shoot 66.7% from the field & 73.3% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Terriers was Fletcher Magee who had 31 points, 5 assists, and a rebound.
On the season, Wofford is averaging 83.1 ppg on 49.0% shooting from the field. The Terriers are averaging 10.6 three-pointers per game on 39.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Wofford has been led by Fletcher Magee (18.5 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 1.5 apg), Cameron Jackson (15.2 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.6 spg), Nathan Hoover (14.1 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.0 apg), and Storm Murphy (8.2 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.5 apg).
Defensively, Wofford is holding their opponents to an average of 65.9 ppg on 43.1% shooting from the field. The Terriers have a rebound margin of 7.9 and a turnover margin of 3.2.
The Mocs are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall, however, are 5-20-1 ATS in their last 26 Saturday games. The Terriers are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games following an ATS loss and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
The Chattanooga Mocs has won 4 of their last 6 games and come into this game ranked 204th in scoring offense & 216th in scoring defense. Wofford has been the best team in the Southern Conference this season and have been outstanding on both ends of the court as they rank 25th in scoring offense, 19th in FG%, and 46th in scoring defense.
Wofford had all they could handle from Samford, however, the Terriers are still one of the best mid-major teams on the country as they showed earlier this season with their 29-point victory at UNC Greensboro earlier this season. Chattanooga has played better as of late however, as there are overmatched on both ends of the court, I think Wofford bounces back with a strong defensive performance agianst the Mocs and do enough to cover this spread.
