The Boise State Broncos and the Wyoming Cowboys meet in Mountain West conference action from the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie, Wyoming on Wednesday night.
The Boise State Broncos will look for a bounce back performance after losing 3 of their last 4 games following a 62-50 loss to Oregon in their last outing. Pat Dembley led the Broncos with 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting with 3 threes as the only Boise State player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Justinian Jessup added 9 points and a team-high 8 rebounds while RJ Williams added 6 points and 7 rebounds. Williams still leads Boise State with an average of 14.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game while Jessup leads the Broncos in assists with 2.7 assists per game this season. As a team, Boise State is averaging 70 points per game on 47% shooting from the field, 34.7% from behind the arc and 69.4% from the foul line this season.
The Wyoming Cowboys will look to build some steam after a 65-63 win over subdivision Dixie State in their last outing to snap a 3-game losing streak. Justin James and Trace Young tied for the team-high with 16 points, with James leading the Cowboys with 8 rebounds and 4 assists while Young shot 6 of 10 from the floor with 4 threes and 6 rebounds. Jordan Naughton added 12 points and a pair of blocks to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Wyoming in the win. Hunter Thompson matched his 6 points with 6 rebounds while A.J. Banks had 4 points and 7 rebounds in the winning effort. James leads Wyoming with an average of 22.4 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Wyoming is averaging 71.4 points per game on 41.8% shooting from the field, 36.1% from behind the arc and 73.7% from the foul line this season.
Boise State is 4-12 ATS in their last 16 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 conference games while the under is 15-6-1 in their last 22 road games. Wyoming is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home games and 13-35-3 ATS in their last 51 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games. The underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
Boise State laying points on the road is a headscratcher to say the least, but anyone who has followed me this college basketball season knows how I try to fade Wyoming whenever I can. I often say it’s James or bust for the Cowboys, and even though Wyoming had some scoring depth in their last outing, the Cowboys barely scraped by a subdivision opponent. The Broncos were beat down by Oregon but Boise State is the more battle-tested team here so I’ll lay the bucket with the Broncos on the road here.
