WAC college basketball gives us a matchup between the San Diego State Aztecs and the Wyoming Cowboys.
The San Diego State Aztecs head in to conference play with wins in three of four capped off by a 72-70 win versus the Gonzaga Bulldogs as a six point underdog. San Diego State was outshot 42.4%-36.1% but forced 16 turnovers and turned 23 Bulldogs fouls in to a 21-11 advantage at the charity stripe.
A balanced Aztecs attack saw the twosome of Jayen McDaniels and Matt Mitchell net 15 points apiece with ten and five rebounds respectively. Trey Kell gave San Diego State 14 points, four pulls and three assists while Malik Pope and Devin Watson combined for 19 points with Pope posting six boards.
The Wyoming Cowboys are hoping to be a challenger in the Mountain West and were building momentum heading to conference action before a 91-84 loss to the visiting Northern Colorado Bears put an end to a three game winning streak. Wyoming held a 53.3%-47.1% shooting edge but Northern Colorado had eight more looks and sank eleven more threes.
Justin James carried the Cowboys offense with a contest high 25 points and six boards on 11-16 from the floor with Hayden Dalton tossing in 13 points and posting five pulls on 5-13 shooting. Nyaires Redding tossed in eleven points on 3-5 from the field while Louis Adams and Alan Herndon netted ten points each with Herndon snagging nine rebounds.
SDSU are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall. Over is 42-19 in Wyoming last 61 vs. Mountain West and over is 47-23 in Wyoming last 70 home games. Over is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings in Wyoming and over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.
San Diego State has generally fared well in this matchup and I’ll back them until I’ve seen both in conference play a few times…
