Mountain West college basketball rivals the Utah State Aggies and the Wyoming Cowboys clash on Wednesday.
The Utah State Aggies have their sights set on a top four finish in the Mountain West and might be on their way with three straight wins after upending the New Mexico Lobos 89-90 as a three point home favorite. Utah State won the shooting battle 56.4%-48.3% which added up to five field goals.
Koby McEwan carried the Aggies offense with a contest high 31 points with 13 rebounds, six assists and three steals on 10-15 from the floor including 6-8 from long range. Quinn Taylor and Dwayne Brown Jr. gave Utah State 15 points and five pulls each while Sam Merrill netted 18 points on 5-9 accuracy.
The Wyoming Cowboys have established themselves as a top four squad in the Mountain West but their spot isn’t secure. Wyoming appeared to be in cruise control with four straight wins before suffering an 80-62 defeat to the visiting Fresno State Bulldogs. The Cowboys struggled to sink shots at 35.8% while Fresno State burned the nets at 54.4%.
Hayden Dalton was Wyoming’s best option at the offensive end of the floor with 20 points and eleven rebounds on 7-16 from the floor including 3-9 on threes with Alan Herndon tossing in eleven points. Justin James gave the Cowboys nine points and five assists on 3-10 while Alexander Aka Gorski chipped in with eight points.
