The Creighton Bluejays will travel to the Cintas Center to take on the Xavier Musketeers this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Creighton Bluejays lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 13-11 (4-7 Big East) on the season after being defeated by the Seton Hall Pirates, 63-58, this past Saturday night. Creighton fought back 41-29 2nd half deficit to take a 54-48 lead with just 4:41 left in regulation, however, the defensive struggled down the stretch and allowed Seton Hall to take lead for good after the Pirates went up by a 59-58 margin with 1:19 left to play. Creighton shot just 30.3% from the field and 28.6% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bluejays was Martin Krampelj who had a double-double with 25 points, 11 rebounds, 1 block, and 3 steals.
On the season, Creighton is averaging 80.4 ppg on 49.3% shooting from the field. The Bluejays are averaging 11.1 three-pointers per game on 40.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Creighton has been led by Ty-Shon Alexander (16.7 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.6 apg), Martin Krampelj (12.5 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 1.0 spg), Marcus Zegarowski (10.9 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.2 apg), and Mitch Ballock (10.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.5 apg).
Defensively, Creighton is allowing their opponents to average 75.4 ppg on 46.1% shooting from the field. The Bluejays have a rebound margin of 0.5 and a turnover margin of -0.2.
The Xavier Musketeers lost their 6th consecutive game and dropped to 11-13 (3-8 Big East) on the season after being defeated by the DePaul Blue Demons, 74-62, this past Saturday. Xavier held a 57-53 lead with just 5:28 left in regulation, however, had no answers defensively for the Blue Demons for the remainder of the game and allowed DePaul to pull away after the Blue Demons finished the game on a 21-5 run. Xavier shot just 40.4% from the field and 27.8% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Musketeers was Naji Marshall who had 22 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block, and a steal.
On the season, Xavier is averaging 72.3 ppg on 46.5% shooting from the field. The Musketeers are averaging 6.8 three-pointers per game on 32.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Xavier has been led by Naji Marshall (13.4 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.0 spg), Paul Scruggs (13.0 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.5 spg), Quentin Goodin (12.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 4.8 apg, 1.4 spg), and Tyrique Jones (10.9 ppg, 7.3 rpg).
Defensively, Xavier is allowing their opponents to average 72.5 ppg on 44.5% shooting from the field. The Musketeers have a rebound margin of 3.3 and a turnover margin of -1.8.
The Bluejays are 21-5 ATS in their last 26 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record, however, just 4-9 ATS in their last 13 road games. The Musketeers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Wednesday games, however, are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games vs. Big East opponents.
Creighton has won just 3 of their last 10 games and although they have one of the more explosive offenses in the Big East as the Bluejays rank 36th in scoring offense, 12th in FG%, & 4th in 3P-FG%, the Bluejays have struggled defensively as they rank just 270th in scoring defense & 295th in defensive FG%.
Xavier has lost 8 of their last 10 games and come into this match-up ranked just 197th in scoring offense, 210th in scoring defense, and 228th in defensive FG%.
Xavier continues to struggle in Big East play this season and I think the struggles are going to continue agianst a Creighton team that defeated team by a 76-54 margin just over a week ago. Creighton’s defense is a worry, however, I think the Bluejays offense will be too much for the Xavier defense and that Creighton does enough to cover this small road spread. Good Luck!
