The DePaul Blue Demons will travel to the Cintas Center to take on the Xavier Musketeers this Saturday night in College Basketball action.

The DePaul Blue Demons snapped their 3-game losing streak and improved to 12-9 (4-6 Big East) on the season after defeating the Providence Friars, 67-55, this past Saturday. DePaul was outstanding defensively against the Friars and pulled away late for the victory after taking closing out the final 4:50 of regulation on a 12-2 run. DePaul held Providence to just 28.6% from the field and 24.1% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Demons was Paul Reed who had a double-double with 18 points, 15 rebounds, 1 assists, 1 block, and 2 steals.

On the season, DePaul is averaging 76.0 ppg on 46.5% shooting from the field. The Blue Demons are averaging 6.4 three-pointers per game on 32.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, DePaul has been led by Max Strus (17.0 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.1 spg), Femi Olujobi (13.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg), Eli Cain (12.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.3 spg), and Paul Reed (11.7 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.0 spg, 1.2 bpg).

Defensively, DePaul is allowing their opponents to average 72.5 ppg on 43.2% shooting from the field. The Blue Demons have a rebound margin of 6.0 and a turnover margin of -0.8.

The Xavier Musketeers lost their 5th straight game and dropped to 11-12 (3-7 Big East) on the season after being defeated by the Creighton Blue Jays, 76-54, this past Sunday. Xavier struggled defensively agianst the Creighton high-scoring offense and couldn’t fight back after a 9-0 Blue Jays run gave Creighton a 63-45 lead with 8:22 left in regulation. Xavier allowed the Blue Jays to shoot 58.3% from the field and 46.7% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Musketeers was Quentin Goodin who had 13 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists, and a steal.

On the season, Xavier is averaging 72.8 ppg on 46.7% shooting from the field. The Musketeers are averaging 6.9 three-pointers per game on 33.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Xavier has been led by Paul Scruggs (13.0 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.5 spg), Naji Marshall (13.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.0 spg), Quentin Goodin (12.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.9 apg, 1.4 spg), and Tyrique Jones (11.0 ppg, 7.2 rpg).

Defensively, Xavier is allowing their opponents to average 72.5 ppg on 44.5% shooting from the field. The Musketeers have a rebound margin of 3.8 and a turnover margin of -1.7.

The Blue Demons are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 road games, however, are just 9-24-3 ATS in their last 36 games following a straight up win. The Musketeers are 4-10-3 ATS in their last 17 home games and are 0-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. Big East opponents.

DePaul has lost 4 of their last 6 games and although their offense has been decent as it ranks T-105th in scoring offense & 83rd in FG%, the defense has struggled at times and current ranks just 206th in scoring defense.

Xavier has lost 7 of their last 9 games and currently rank T-188th in scoring offense, 207th in scoring defense, and 228th in defensive FG%.

Xavier is currently in rebuilding mode and it’s really shown recent in conference play and has struggled defensively as of late as during their 5-game losing streak, they are allowing their opponents to average 78.4 ppg. DePaul is a solid team with some good playmakers in Max Strus & Paul Reed and although the Blue Demons are 2-5 on the road this season, I think DePaul will be able to do enough offensively to at worst, keep it within the number. Take DePaul and the points.

Pick:
DePaul Blue Demons +4
