The Evansville Purple Aces and the Xavier Musketeers meet in college basketball action from the Cintas Centre on Saturday afternoon.
The Evansville Purple Aces will look to bounce back after being throttled in their season opener on Thursday by a final score of 99-60 at the hands of Illinois. K.J. Riley, Shea Feehan and Marty Hill each shot 4 of 8 from the field, with Riley leading the Aces with 14 points while Hill added 13 points and 6 rebounds and Feehan chipped in 12 points to round out the trio of double digit scorers for Evansville in the losing effort. Shamar Givance added 4 points to match his team-high 4 assists in the loss. As a team, Evansville is averaging 60 points on 37.7% shooting from the field, 35% from behind the 3-point line and 63.6% from the foul line after their opening game.
The Xavier Musketeers will be looking to build some momentum after starting their season with an 82-69 triumph over IUPUI in their last outing. Ryan Welage had quite the Xavier debut, leading the Musketeers with 24 point son 9 of 17 shooting with 6 threes. Tyrique Jones added 17 points on 8 of 11 shooting with 6 rebounds and 4 steals, while Naji Marshall added 13 points with a team-high 8 assists to finish off the trio of scorers in double figures for the Musketeers in the winning effort. Kyle Castlin added 9 points while also chipping in 8 rebounds in the win for Xavier. As a team, Xavier is averaging 82 points on 47% shooting from the field, 31% from behind the 3-point line and 57.9% from the foul line following their opening game.
Evansville is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a loss and 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss of 20 or more points while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall. Xavier is 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 home games and 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games following a win.
The problem with Evansville is it takes the Aces a while to rebound from a blowout loss, failing to cover in 9 of their last 10 games following a loss of 20+ points. Xavier is a much better team in my opinion than Illinois, and if the Illini can blow out Evansville by 39, I shudder to think what Xavier will do so I’ll lay the points with the Musketeers in this spot.
