|Date & Time||Tuesday November 6, 2018, 8:30 PM (EST)|
The Line: Xavier Musketeers -19.5 -- Over/Under: 145.5
The Xavier Musketeers welcome the Indiana-Purdue Jaguars to town in the college basketball opener for both schools.
The Indiana-Purdue Jaguars were well down the Horizon standings at 11-19 which was 6th in the conference. Indiana-Purdue was outscored 72.7-68.2 with the opposition sinking shots at 47%.
The Jaguars desperately need scoring punch and the departure of their three top scorers is not ideal. Aaron Brennan, TJ Henderson and Ron Patterson were almost half the offense with a combined 33.5 points which will be difficult to replace.
The backcourt of Nick Rogers and Jaylen Minnett combined for just over 12 points and they will be joined by Vanderbilt transfer Cameron Justice. Forwards DJ McCall netted seven points and grabbed 4.2 boards with Evan Hall averaging 7.7 points and 6.1 rebounds but there is a dramatic need for production overall.
The Xavier Musketeers enjoyed an outstanding 2017-18 with a 29-6 record and a first place finish in the Big East ahead of National Champion Villanova. Xavier was a top ten offense that scored 84.4 points on 49.2% marksmanship while allowing 74.7 points.
The Musketeers lose a wealth of talent with Trevon Bluiett leaving with a team high 19.3 points and 5.5 boards while JP Macura and Kerem Kanter depart with a combined 24 points and nine rebounds.
Xavier won’t be hurting Quentin Goodin (8.7 ppg), Paul Scruggs (4.9ppg) and Naji Marshall (7.7 ppg) ready to take over in the backcourt in much bigger rolls. Forward Tyrique Jones brings back seven points and 4.5 boards for the Musketeers and he’ll team up with 6-9 San Jose State transfer Ryan Welage. Throw in several highly ranked recruits and nobody is feeling sorry for Xavier.
Indiana-Purdue are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and Indiana-Purdue are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games. Over is 6-2 in Xavier last 8 vs. Horizon League and under is 20-7 in Xavier last 27 Tuesday games and over is 5-2-1 in Xavier last 8 home games.
The Musketeers lost some quality production and likely will have trouble in the Big East but not so much here…
