We have some Ivy League action on the hardwood as the Columbia Lions take on the Yale Bulldogs in a college basketball matchup on Friday night.
The Columbia Lions will look to build on back-to-back wins and victories in 3 of their last 4 games following a 77-74 win over Dartmouth in their last outing. Mike Smith led the Lions with 20 points on 5 of 14 shooting with 3 triples and a 7 of 9 mark from the foul line along with a team-high 3 assists. Quinton Adlesh came 2nd with 18 points on 6 of 10 from 3-point range with a pair of steals. Lukas Meisner and Kyle Castlin each added 16 points to round out the scoring in double figures for Columbia, with Meisner adding 11 rebounds while shooting 7 of 9 with a pair of threes for the double-double, while Castlin went 6 of 9 from the floor with a pair of steals. Patrick Tape was held scoreless but added 10 rebounds and 3 blocks in the winning effort for Columbia. Smith leads Columbia with an average of 17.4 points and 4.5 assists while Meisner is the Lions’ top rebounder with 6.8 boards per game this season. As a team, Columbia is scoring 75.2 points per game on 43.9% shooting from the field, 36.5% from behind the 3-point line and 71.3% from the foul line this season.
The Yale Bulldogs will look to turn things around after back-to-back losses and defeats in 4 of their last 5 games following a 59-50 loss to Penn in their last outing. Paul Atkinson was the only Bulldog to score in double digits in the loss, with 20 points on 6 of 12 shooting with an 8 of 8 mark from the foul line and 13 rebounds for the double-double. Alex Copeland added 8 points while Miye Oni added 6 points on 3 of 14 shooting with a pair of blocks in the losing effort for the Bulldogs. Oni leads the team with an average of 14.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Yale is scoring 74 points per game on 46.7% shooting from the field, 32.2% from behind the arc and 69.3% from the foul line this season.
Columbia is 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games following a win and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall. Yale is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 conference matchups while the under is 8-2 in their last 10 games overall. Columbia is 4-14 ATS in the last 18 meetings between these two teams and 2-7 ATS in the last 9 meetings at Yale.
Columbia comes into this one in much better form and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Lions leave with a road win here. However, the Lions have been brutal when trying to follow up a win, and haven’t had much success ATS in this matchup. Yale on the other hand is a much better team than their recent play would indicate, and while the Bulldogs are far from a lock at home ATS, I think the Bulldogs have enough talent to get the win and cover at home in this one.
