The Central Michigan Chippewas will travel to Beeghly Center to take on the Youngstown State Penguins this Tuesday night in College Basketball action.

The Central Michigan Chippewas had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 6-2 on the season after being defeated by the TCU Horned Frogs, 89-62, this past Friday. Central Michigan had no answers offensively against TCU and couldn’t fight back after TCU took a 46-26 halftime lead. Central Michigan shot 32.8% from the field and 17.4% from beyond the arc while getting outrebounded by TCU by a 48-31 margin. Leading the way for the Chippewas was Larry Austin Jr. who had 19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal.

Offensively, Central Michigan is averaging 83.0 ppg on 46.0% shooting from the field. The Chippewas are averaging 7.0 three-pointers per game on 30.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Central Michigan has been led by Larry Austin Jr. (19.0 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 4.4 apg, 2.1 spg), Kevin McKay (17.3 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.1 apg, 2.0 spg), Shawn Roundtree (14.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.6 spg), and David DiLeo (9.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.0 spg).

Defensively, Central Michigan is allowing their opponents to average 70.4 ppg on 42.5% shooting from the field. The Chippewas have a rebound margin of 1.9 and a turnover margin of 5.9.

The Youngstown State Penguins lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 3-6 on the season after being defeated by the West Virginia Mountaineers, 106-72, this past Saturday. Youngstown had no answers on either end of the court for the Mountaineers and couldn’t fight back after an 11-0 run by West Virginia to end the 1st half gave the Mountaineers a 55-37 halftime lead. Youngstown State allowed West Virginia to shot 54.1% from the field while the Penguins shot just 37.7 from the field and 25.0% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Penguins was Garrett Covington who had 20 points and 4 rebounds.

On the season, Youngstown State is averaging 78.7 ppg on 42.0% shooting from the field. The Penguins are averaging 9.7 three-pointers per game on 31.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Youngstown State has been led by Garrett Covington (11.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.8 spg), Kendale Hampton (10.9 ppg, 2.6 rpg), Donel Cathcart III (9.0 ppg, 1.3 apg), and Naz Bohannon (6.0 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 3.1 apg).

Defensively, Youngstown State is allowing their opponents to average 83.3 ppg on 46.8% shooting from the field. The Penguins have a rebound margin of 4.3 and a turnover margin of -2.8.

The Chippewas are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 Tuesday games and 16-6 ATS in their last 22 non-conference games. The Penguins are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 non-conference games and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games overall.

Central Michigan ranks 45th in scoring offense and has done a great job forcing turnovers on the defensive end, ranking 10th in steals & 13th in turnover margin. Youngstown State has been decent on the offensive end however, the Penguins once again look like they will struggle on the defensive end as they come into this matchup ranked 336th in scoring defense & 308th in defensive FG%. Central Michigan isn’t as good as their record might indicate, however, I do think the Chippewas have enough offense to be able to do enough to cover this mid-range road spread.

Pick:
Central Michigan Chippewas -6.5
