The Northern Kentucky Norse will travel to the Beeghly Center to take on the Youngstown State Penguins this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.

The Northern Kentucky Norse won their 3rd straight game and improved to 15-4 (5-1 Horizon) on the season after defeating the Cleveland State Vikings, 91-76, this past Thursday. Northern Kentucky has no trouble putting up points agianst the Cleveland State defense and pulled away after taking a 75-56 lead midway though the 2nd half. Northern Kentucky shot 49.2% from the field and 46.9% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Norse was Drew McDonald who had a double-double with 19 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, and a steal.

On the season, Northern Kentucky is averaging 79.3 ppg on 47.9% shooting from the field. The Norse are averaging 9.3 three-pointers per game on 35.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Northern Kentucky has been led by Drew McDonald (18.8 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 2.9 apg), Tyler Sharpe (14.4 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.4 spg), Jalen Tate (13.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.1 spg), and Dantez Walton (11.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.0 spg).

Defensively, Northern Kentucky is holding their opponents to an average of 66.9 ppg on 40.1% shooting from the field. The Norse have a rebound margin of 4.0 and a turnover margin of 1.6.

The Youngstown State Penguins dropped to 6-14 (2-5 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Wright State Raiders, 80-74, this past Thursday. Youngstown State led by a 45-38 margin at halftime, however, struggled offensively in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after a 6-0 run gave the Raiders a 76-69 lead with 1:19 left in regulation. Youngstown State shot 49.2% from the field and 40.0% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Penguins was Darius Quisenberry who had 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

On the season, Youngstown State is averaging 76.1 ppg on 42.3% shooting from the field. The Penguins are averaging 9.8 three-pointers per game on 34.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Youngstown State has been led by Darius Quisenberry (12.7 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.4 apg, 1.1 spg), Garrett Covington (11.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.6 spg), Devin Morgan (8.4 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 3.1 apg), and Naz Bohannon (6.6 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 3.1 apg).

Defensively, Youngstown State is allowing their opponents to average 80.0 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field. The Penguins have a rebound margin of 4.2 and a turnover margin of -1.6.

The Norse are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 gave vs. Horizon League opponents, however, are just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS win. The Penguins are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up loss and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

Northern Kentucky has won 7 of their last 8 games and has been solid on both ends of the court as they come into this game ranked 57th in scoring offense & 69th in scoring defense. Youngstown State has split their last 4 games and although fast paced offense has done a decent job putting points up on the board, the Penguins have struggled defensively as they currently rank 330th in scoring defense & 308th in defensive FG%.

Youngstown State has played better at home as of late, however, Northern Kentucky looks like their best team in the Horizon this season and as I think Drew McDonald and the offense will be able to put up plenty of points in this one, I’m taking the Norse to cover this large road spread.

Pick:
Northern Kentucky Norse -8.5
