The Oakland Golden Grizzlies won their 2nd straight game and improved to 16-10 (8-5 Horizon) on the season after defeating the Detroit Mercy Titans, 87-78, this past Friday. Oakland had to work for their victory over the heavily underdog Titans, however, was able to pull away for the victory after a 10-2 Golden Grizzlies run gave Oakland a 69-59 lead with 7:39 left in regulation. Oakland shot 48.3% from the field and 79.3% (23-29) from the FT-Line in the win. Defensively, Oakland is allowing their opponents to average 78.3 ppg on 45.4% shooting from the field. The Golden Grizzlies have a rebound margin of -1.3 and a turnover margin of -0.6.
The Youngstown State Penguins snapped their 5-game losing streak and improved to 7-20 (5-9 Horizon) on the season after defeating the IUPUI Jaguars, 84-80, this past Saturday. Youngstown State held a 47-37 lead at halftime and held off a late IUPUI charge after taking a 72-58 lead with 6:43 left in regulation. Youngstown State shot 51.8% from the field and 39.1% (9-23) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Penguins was Cameron Morse who had 28 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. On the season, Youngstown State is averaging 75.4 ppg on 42.9% shooting from the field. The Penguins are averaging 7.4 three-pointers per game on 33.6% shooting from beyond the arc. The Golden Grizzlies are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 Wednesday games however, are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Penguins are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 games after a straight up win.
Oakland has multiple offensive weapons that have the Golden Grizzlies ranked 44thi n scoring offense and 95th in three-pointers made per game, however, the Golden Grizzlies have really struggled defensively as they come into this matchup ranked just 311th in scoring defense. Youngstown State has won just 2 of their last 7 games and although their fast-paced offense can get the Penguins to put up plenty of points, Youngstown State comes into this one ranked just 340th in scoring defense and 351st in the defensive FG%. Oakland has won 7 of their last 9 games, however, I haven’t been that impressed by the Golden Grizzlies as of late as they struggled to pull out convincing wins recently at home against two of the worst teams in the Horizon in IUPUI and Detroit Mercy and as I think the Penguins will be able to keep up with Oakland’s offense on their home court, I’m taking Youngstown State and the points.
