The Morgan State Bears will travel to Falcon Stadium this Saturday to take on the Air Force Falcons in college football action.
The Morgan State Bears finished last season with a 7-6 record but was able to grab a share of the MEAC title by going 6-2 in conference play. Second year head coach Lee Hull had a good offensive last year averaging 27.85 ppg averaging 378 ypg. The offensive should be strong once against as both QB Moses Skillon (56.37 comp %, 1392 yds, 11 TD) and RB Herb Walker Jr. (1408 yds, 6.0 yds/carry, 13 TD). Hull will also have another option in the back field as the Bears leading rushing in 2013, Lamont Brown III will be back after missing the majority of last season due to injury. On the defensive side the Bears did a decent job holding opponents to 26.46 ppg and 356.7 ypg. The defense will have to find replacements for their leading tackler Cody Acker and DE Christopher Robinson who registered 15 sacks last season. The Bears do return two key members in their defensive back field in Antonio Jefferson and Peterson Janvier.
The Air Force Falcons were one of the most improved teams in college football last season going from a 2-10 record in 2013 to finishing with a 10-3 (5-3 MW) record and finished the season with a 38-24 win against Western Michigan in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Air Force will have trouble repeating it’s performance last year as it’s returning only 11 starters (4 on the defensive end) and lost quarterback Kale Pearson (59.1 comp %, 1590 yds, 14 TD). Last year, the Falcons averaged 28.3 ppg in conference play and ranked 4th in rushing in the conference with 247 yds/game. Returning for the Falcons will be RB Jacobi Owens (1054 yds, 5 TD) and WR Jalen Robinette (806 yds, 4 TD). Defensively, Air Force finished last season 4th in the conference giving up an average of 26.1 ppg. Although the defense will have a lot of inexperience, the still have an All-Conference DE Alex Hansen and SS Weston Stellhammer.
The Bears are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games in September and the over is 4-1 in the Bears last 5 games. The Falcons are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
The line has yet to be posted but I’m expecting it to be a bit high based of the Falcons success last year and for the fact that they are playing at home. Although Air Force is going to win this game but I think Morgan State and their solid running attack is going to have some success against the inexperienced Falcons defensive. The Bears won4 straight to end their season last year and if the line is high as expected, I’m leading to take the Bears and the points.
