The Line: Akron Zips -9 -- Over/Under:
The Bowl hopeful Akron Zips welcome the rival Kent State Golden Flashes to town in week 13.
The Kent State Golden Flashes have taken themselves out of the postseason conversation with four consecutive defeats following a 27-14 loss to visiting Central Michigan. The defensive minded Golden Flashes have had scoring issues and that trend continued with Chippewas leading 442-278 in yardage and forcing two turnovers. Kent State had problems throwing the ball with George Bollas going 2-10 for eleven yards while Colin Reardon completing 7-16 for 87 yards and a touchdown of six yards to Johnny Woods. Raekwon James, Trayion Durham and Bollas combined for 144 yards on 27 carries.
The Akron Zips have gotten hot at just the right time with three straight victories to raise their record to 6-5 with a win in their final game sending the team to the postseason. The Zips dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage in a 42-21 victory versus visiting Buffalo. The Zips owned yardage 475-392 and forced three turnovers with 36+ minutes of possession. Quarterback Thomas Woodson completed 17-30 for 258 yards and four touchdown with Imani Davis leading Akron with seven receptions for 118 yards and a score. The Zips were effective on the ground behind Donnell Alexander who totaled 143 yards and a pair of scores on 24 touches.
The Golden Flashes are 0-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and the under is 4-0 in Golden Flashes last 4 road games while the Golden Flashes are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 conference games. The over is 4-0 in Zips last 4 games following a ATS win and the Zips are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in November while going 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 Friday games. The Golden Flashes are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Akron and the under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings while the underdog is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 meetings. For some reason I don’t trust Akron but I believe they have to win for a Bowl…
