The Line: Alabama Crimson Tide -15.5 -- Over/Under:
The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators face off on Saturday in Tuscaloosa for a SEC battle of unbeaten teams.
The Alabama Crimson Tide are off to a 3-0 start this season as they prepare for their SEC opener. Alabama opened the season with a 10-point win over West Virginia and have followed that up with one sided wins over FAU and Southern Miss. Blake Sims remains the starting QB completing 75 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and an interception and Jake Coker has played mop up. The Tide rushing attach has been in good shape with T.J. Yeldon averaging 5.8 yards per carry and Derrick Henry averaging 6.3 yards. Amari Cooper leads Bama in receiving with 33 catches dwarfing second best Christion Jones’ nine. The Alabama defense has yet to grab an interception as they have two fumble recoveries and seven sacks. Landon Collins leads the Crimson Tide defense with 27 tackles, Xzavier Dickson has two sacks as does Ryan Anderson. Alabama has been winning comfortably but they haven’t looked as dominant on the field as they have in recent years.
The Florida Gators are coming off of a miserable year and after two games they appear to be improved but we will find out this week just how much. Florida’s first game of the season was cancelled but the Gators beat EMU by 65 to start the season and then knocked off Kentucky last week in double OT for their first SEC win of the season. QB Jeff Driskel is back and healthy completing nearly 64 percent of his passes with four touchdowns. Matt Jones has gotten the bulk of the carries for the Gators averaging 6.0 yards with two touchdowns and Kelvin Taylor has a 5.7 yards per carry average with two touchdowns. Demarcus Robinson is giving UF more productivity through the air than we have seen in recent years with 21 catches and three touchdowns and tight end Clay Burton has nine catches. The Florida defense has been outstanding with four interceptions; four fumble recoveries, and five sacks. Neiron Ball leads the Gators defense with 11 tackles and two sacks while Keanu Neal has two interceptions and Michael Taylor has 11 tackles. Florida has a roster loaded with All-Americans and they are trying to prove last year was just a blip on the radar.
Alabama is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven SEC games, 0-4-1 against the spread in their last five home games, and 0-6-1 against the spread in their last seven games overall. Florida is 10-22-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 6-14 against the spread in their last 20 games, and 11-4-1 against the spread in September games. The home team has covered the point spread in five of the last seven meetings of these two.
I am expecting a defensive struggle and I am waiting until the total is released to give out my free pick so please check back shortly after the totals are posted and I will update this with my free pick.
