The Line: Alabama Crimson Tide -7 -- Over/Under: 47
The Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers face off on Saturday Night in Tuscaloosa in a college football battle of top SEC teams looking to make the playoffs.
The Alabama Crimson Tide are 7-1 this season and have bounce back from their loss to Ole Miss with five consecutive wins. The Alabama offense is averaging 33.5 points and 421.9 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 14 times. Derrick Henry leads the Crimson Tide ground attack with 1,044 yards and 14 touchdowns and Calvin Ridley it the top receiver with 45 catches. Defensively Alabama is allowing 16.4 points and 275.8 yards per game with 12 interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and 27 sacks. Reggie Ragland leads Alabama with 71 tackles, Eddie Jackson has five interceptions, and Jonathan Allen has 6.0 sacks. Alabama made the playoff last season with one loss and they are hoping to do the same this year.
The LSU Tigers are off to a 7-0 start to the season and are looking to make the playoffs for the first time and with a win here will control their own destiny in the SEC West. The LSU offense is averaging 38.9 points and 466 yards per game and they have turned the ball over just twice. LSU QB Brandon Harris has completed 58.6 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and he has rushed for three touchdowns but the LSU passing game has picked up in recent weeks. The Tigers rushing attack is led by Leonard Fournette who has rushed for 1,352 yards and 15 touchdowns and Travin Dural has 24 receptions and Malachi Dupre has 21 catches and five touchdowns. The LSU defense is allowing 22.6 points and 315.9 yards per game with seven interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and 18 sacks. Kendell Beckwith and Deion Jones each have 51 tackles and Lewis Neal has 7.0 sacks. LSU has looked like a well oiled machine.
Alabama is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games, 2-5 against the spread following a win, and 0-5 against the spread in their last five home games. LSU is 4-1 against the spread in their last five SEC games and 6-2 against the spread following a bye week. The favorite is 9-4-1 against the spread in the last 14 meetings of these two and the road team is 14-5-1 against the spread in the last 20 meetings of these two.
The total in this one is set at 47, down from 51, and while I see some solid defense, I see this one going over that number and that is my free pick. My stronger play is on the winning team against the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area.
