USA TODAY Sports

The Alabama State Hornets and Texas Southern Tigers square off Thursday night at BBVA Compass Stadium.

The Alabama State Hornets look for a big road victory after a tough 1-3 start to the season. Ellis Richardson is completing 58.1 percent of his passes for 221 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Richardson and Daniel Duhart have combined for three touchdown passes. Ephraim Henderson and Khalid Thomas have combined for 143 receiving yards while Joshua Davis has two touchdowns. The Alabama State Hornets ground game is averaging 151.2 yards per contest, and Richardson leads the way with 176 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, Alabama State is allowing 26 points and 384.2 yards per game. Kourtney Berry leads the Hornets with 60 tackles, Detavion Galmer has three sacks and Bradley Street has three pass deflections.

The Texas Southern Tigers look to get a game above a .500 record with a victory here. Johnathan Bowen is completing 53.8 percent of his passes for 450 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. Bowen and Averion Hurts have combined for five touchdowns. Derrick Griffin and Malik Cross have combined for 322 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Larry Clark has five receptions. The Texas Southern Tigers ground game is averaging 171 yards per contest, and Bowen leads the way with 154 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Texas Southern is allowing 19.3 points and 305 yards per game. Jamal Lucas leads the Tigers with 27 tackles, Amir Bloom has 1.5 sacks and Ryhean McMorris has three pass deflections.

This game could be rather fun to watch given that both teams have dual-threat quarterbacks who can carry an offense. But overall, Texas Southern is more balanced, has shown more signs of life and is at home where it has improved as of late.

I like the Tigers to win this game.

Pick:
Texas Southern Tigers
