The Line: Alabama Crimson Tide -32.5 -- Over/Under:
The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Kentucky Wildcats face off on Saturday in Tuscaloosa in Week 5 SEC College Football action.
The Alabama Crimson Tide are 4-0 this season and are the top ranked team in the nation as they continue to pursue back-to-back national titles. Alabama’s offense is averaging 46.5 points, 246.2 rushing yards, and 237.2 passing yards per game and they have turned the ball over 4 times. Crimson Tide QB Jalen Hurts has completed 62.7 percent of his passes with 5 touchdowns and an interception and he has rushed for 251 yards and 3 touchdowns. With several injuries at running back I’m not sure if Damien Harris will be good to go here but if not Joshua Jacobs looked to be more than ready and he has rushed for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns and Calvin Ridley is the top receiver with 20 catches and a touchdown and O.J. Howard has 10 catches and a touchdown. The Alabama defense is allowing 14.8 points and 280.2 yards per game with 3 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries, and 13 sacks. Reuben Foster is Bama’s leading tackler with 29 while Jonathan Allen and Ryan Anderson have 3 sacks each. Alabama looks to be a handful as no one has been able to slow them down.
The Kentucky Wildcats are 2-2 this season and they are coming off of a 17-10 win over South Carolina last week. The UK offense is averaging 30.2 points, 196.8 rushing yards, and 203.5 passing yards and they have turned the ball over 12 times. Wildcats QB Stephen Johnson has completed 65.9 percent of his passes with 3 touchdowns and an interception and he has rushed for 66 yards. Stanley “Boom” Williams is Kentucky’s top rusher with 464 yards and 2 touchdowns and Benny Snell has 209 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns while Garrett Johnson is the top receiver with 13 catches and 2 touchdowns. The UK defense is allowing 35.2 points and 463 yards per game with 6 interceptions and 8 sacks. Jordan Jones leads the Kentucky defense with 43 tackles, Mike Edwards has 31 tackles, and Coutney Love has 24 tackles. This is a big step up for the Cats and they will be hard pressed just to hold their own in this spot.
Alabama is 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 home games, 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games, and 7-3 against the spread following a win. Kentucky is 1-4 against the spread following a win, 2-10 against the spread in their last 12 games, and 1-6 against the spread against a team with a winning record. The road team has covered the point spread in the last five meetings of these two.
This is a big number but I don’t see how Kentucky keeps this close especially on the road.
