The Line: Clemson Tigers -17 -- Over/Under: 58.5
Clemson Memorial Stadium and the Clemson Tigers host the Appalachian State Mountaineers Saturday.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers were the hottest team in the Sun Belt to end 2014 and they picked up where they left off with a 49-0 rout of FCS Howard in week one. This was over at the handshake with the Mountaineers amassing a 663-171 yardage advantage along with a 33-8 edge in first downs. Taylor Lamb gave ASU 209 passing yards and three touchdowns with Shaedon Meadors, Simms McElfresh and Isaiah Lewis each on the end of scoring tosses. The ground was where the Mountaineers did much of their damage with Marcus Cox totaling 105 yards with a 68 yard scoring burst while JP Caruso and Jalin Moore combined for another 125 yards. Appalachian State emptied the bench early or this score could have been much worse.
The Clemson Tigers had zero problem containing the rushing attack of Wofford in a 49-10 victory in the season opener for both schools. The Tigers held the run first Terriers to only 123 yards on the ground while racking up 533 yards in any manner they chose. Deshaun Watson gave the Tigers an efficient 18-22, 194 yard effort in the air with touchdown throws to Artavis Scott and Mike Williams on the receiving end of the scoring throws. Wayne Gallman paced a productive Clemson ground game with 92 yards on 14 touches with a pair of trips to the end zone while Zac Brooks added 52 yards and a touchdown on seven touches. The Tigers went deep on their bench with Wofford unable to move the ball or get stops.
The Mountaineers are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall and the over is 4-1 in Mountaineers last 5 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game while the under is 4-1 in Mountaineers last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The under is 4-0 in Tigers last 4 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and is 5-0 in Tigers last 5 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game while the Tigers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in September. I don’t really like the chalk but Clemson covers if they play their game…
