The Troy Trojans visit Sun Belt heavyweight the Appalachian State Mountaineers in week nine action.
The Troy Trojans are definitely in a rebuilding mode but they proved there is some spunk in them as the destroyed New Mexico State 52-7 on the road in a game that was 45-7 at the half. The Aggies were limited to 393 yards and lost a pair of fumbles with one returned for a touchdown. The Trojans totaled 482 yards with the air game doing most of the heavy lifting. Quarterback Brandon Silvers paced Toy in the air with 288 yards and five touchdowns on 23-37 with Teddy Ruben snagging three balls for 109 yards and a pair of scores. The Trojans were effective on the ground with Brandon Burks rambling for 133 yards on ten touches with a trip to the ene zone.
The Georgia Southern Eagles could have taken control of the Sun Belt with a win over conference rival Appalachian State but instead they were handled rather easily in a 31-13 defeat in week eight. The numbers tell the story with the Mountaineers rolling up 433 yards with the ability to run and throw while the defense limited the Eagles option to a mere 252 yards with a pair of interceptions. Taylor Lamb gave ASU a strong passing attack with 202 yards and two touchdowns on 14-20 with Simms McElfresh hauling in six passes for 66 yards and a score. The Mountaineers received 90 yards and two TD’s on 90 yards while Jalin Moore and Terrence Upshaw combined for 101 yards on 17 carries..
The under is 4-0 in Trojans last 4 games on fieldtur and is 5-1 in Trojans last 6 games following a ATS while the over is 9-2 in Trojans last 11 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game. The Mountaineers are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 conference games and the under is 4-0 in Mountaineers last 4 games on fieldturf while going 6-1 in Mountaineers last 7 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game. The Mountaineers can not afford a letdown here and I hope we don’t see one…
