The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the Appalachian State Mountaineers will meet up in college football action Saturday.

Coastal Carolina comes in here at 3-1 on the year. The Chanticleers fell to Eastern MI in the opener but have since taken out Kansas, Norfolk State and UMass in succession.

In the UMass game, Coastal Carolina QB Fred Payton put up 203 yards, a TD and a pick, and Bryce Carpenter had 102 yards rushing. Torrance Marable also had a nice day on the ground with 100 yards and two scores.

Over on the App State side, they’re 3-0 this year. The Mountaineers have taken out East Tennessee State 42-7, Charlotte 56-41 and North Carolina 34-31 so far.

In the win over NC, Appalachian State QB Zac Thomas put up 224 yards and a pick, while Darrynton Evans did most of the work with his 78 rush yards and three touchdowns.

The Chanticleers are 7-1 ATS in their last eight on turf and 6-1 in their last seven in September. Coastal is 0-4 ATS in their last four conference games and 1-4 ATS versus a team with a winning record.

Meanwhile, the Mountaineers are 6-1 ATS in their last seven in September and 15-5 ATS in their last 20 overall. App State is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 after an ATS win and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 on turf.

The win over Kansas seems to have galvanized Coastal Carolina, and they haven’t looked back in their two games since. In that span, they’ve tallied 108 points and allowed a paltry 35.

App State will serve as stout competition, however. I expect this one to be close, but I think Coastal can get in there and cover.
