The UCLA Bruins will travel to Sun Devil Stadium to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils this upcoming Saturday afternoon in College Football action.

The UCLA Bruins lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 2-7 (2-4 Pac-12) on the season after being defeated by the Oregon Ducks, 42-21, this past Saturday. UCLA allowed Oregon to jump out to a 21-0 lead and allowed Oregon to pull away after a 67-Yard TD reception by Oregon’s Dillon Mitchell gave Oregon a 35-14 lead with 10:20 left in regulation. UCLA outgained Oregon by a 496-492 margin however, lost the turnover battle by a 3-0 margin. Leading the way for the Bruins was RB Joshua Kelley who had 161 rushing yards and a TD on 26 carries. On the season, UCLA is averaging 21.2 ppg on 362.8 total yards per game (209.6 passing yds/g; 153.2 rushing yds/g). Offensively, UCLA has been led by RB Joshua Kelly who has 7 rushing TD’s on the season while averaging 102.5 rushing yds/g on 18.3 att/g. UCLA used both QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson (57.7 Comp %; 7 TD; 4 INT; 163.9 passing yds/g) and Wilton Speight (55.8 Comp %; 3 TD; 3 INT; 140.0 passing yds/g) against Oregon with Speight replacing Thompson-Robinson after halftime. At this time, it’s going to be hard to predict which QB Chip Kelly is going to go with. The top receivers for the Bruins have been Caleb Wilson (4.0 rec/g; 61.6 yds/g; 2 TD), Theo Howard (4.3 rec/g; 54.6 yds/g; 3 TD’s), and Demetric Felton (2.0 rec/g; 21.0 yds/g; TD). Defensively, UCLA is allowing 33.6 ppg on 437.8 total yards per game (229.6 passing yds/g; 208.2 rushing yds/g).

The Arizona State Sun Devils won their 2nd straight game and improved to 5-4 (3-3 Pac-12) on the season after upsetting the 15th ranked Utah Utes, 38-20, this past Saturday. Arizona State’s offensive was impressive agianst a tough Utah defense and the Sun Devils scored 17 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to pull away for the victory. Arizona State outgained Utah by a 536-325 margin and won the turnover battle by a 3-1 margin. Leading the way for the Sun Devils was WR N’Keal Henry who had 161 receiving yards and 3 TD’s on 9 receptions. On the season, Arizona State is averaging 29.8 ppg on 379.2 total yards per game (220.6 passing yds/g; 158.7 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Arizona State has been led by Manny Wilkins who has completed 64.6% of his passes for 15 TD & 3 INT while averaging 250.0 passing yds/g. Wilkins also has 4 rushing TD’s on the season and is the 2nd leading rusher for the Sun Devils as he is averaging 34.6 yds/g. The top receiving threats for Wilkins and the Sun Devils have been N’Keal Henry (6.1 rec/g; 92.0 yds/g; 9 TD), Frank Darby (2.1 rec/g; 42.3 yds/g; TD), and Kyle Williams (3.3 rec/g; 34.6 yds/g; TD). Leading the way for the Arizona State backfield has been Eno Benjamin who has 11 rushing TD’s on the season while averaging 123.67 rushing yds/g on 21.4 att/g. Defensively, Arizona State is holding their opponents to an average of 22.4 ppg on 379.2 total yards per game (220.6 passing yds/g; 158.7 rushing yds/g).

The Bruins are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games. The Sun Devils are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 conference games.

It’s been a tale of two different seasons for Chip Kelly and Herm Edwards as UCLA has really struggled while Arizona State has already exceeded pre-season expectations. Outside of the Bruins rushing attack led by Joshua Kelly, the Bruins have nothing but question marks on both sides of the ball and between the fact that Arizona State is very tough at home and that they have impact players with QB Manny Wilkins, RB Eno Benjamin, and WR N’Keal Henry, I think Arizona State picks up their 6th win of the season to become bowl eligible while covering this spread. Take Arizona State to cover.
