Toledo Rockets (10-2) at Arkansas State Red Wolves (9-4)
|Date & Time||Friday September 2, 2016, 9:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Arkansas State Red Wolves -3.5 -- Over/Under: 63
The Toledo Rockets have a tough opener in a road bout with the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
While many believe the potent attack of the Toledo Rockets will take a step back in 2016 with quarterback Phillip Ely gone, Logan Woodside is very capable. Woodside and the Rockets have a deep and talented group of receivers to play catch with, led by Corey Jones, Cody Thompson and Dontae Johnson just to name a few. The Toledo rushing game will feature a pair of potential 1,000+ yard backs in Kareem Hunt and Terry Swanson that have an offensive line with five players that have starting experience including All MAC guard Storm Norton. The Rockets offense grabbed most of the headlines but if the scoring is down the defense has enough stopping power to still win.
The Arkansas State Red Wolves are one of several teams capable of winning the Sun Belt Crown which right now is a coin flip. Do everything quarterback Fredi Knighten has graduated and has some big shoes to fill and it looks like Justice Hansen will get his opportunity to direct some quality talent. ASU loses Tres Houston and JD McKissic and loads of production but get back Dijon Paschal and transfers Kendall Sanders and Cameron Echols-Luper who form the nucleus of what should be a strong group of receivers. Johnston White and Warren Wand become the Red Wolves rushing attack with the departures of Knighten and Michael Gordon although the return of the entire O-Line says the ground game will be in good shape.
The Rockets are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games in September and are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games while going 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 versus the S-Belt. The over is 5-0 in Red Wolves last 5 home games and the Red Wolves are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 4-1 in the Red Wolves last 5 games in September. The Rockets are tough if they play for 60 minutes…
