The San Jose State Spartans and the Arkansas Razorbacks meet in a week 4 college football matchup from Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Saturday
The San Jose State Spartans will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season, falling to 1-1 on the year after a 34-16 loss against Tulsa last time out. Josh Love has thrown for 413 yards on 60.7% passing with 3 touchdowns while Nick Nash leads SJSU in rushing with 115 rushing yards. Isaiah Hamilton leads the Spartans’ receivers with 8 catches for 109 yards this season. Defensively, Ethan Aguayo leads San Jose State with 34 tackles with 15 solo tackles and 19 assisted tackles while Jay Lenard has 16 tackles in 2nd this season. As a team, San Jose State is averaging 365 yards of total offense and 25.5 points per game this season.
The Arkansas Razorbacks will look to build on a 55-34 win over Colorado State in their last outing to get back above .500 at 2-1 on the year. Nick Starkel has thrown for 554 yards, 4 touchdowns and an interception on 64.1% passing while Rakeem Boyd leads the Hogs in rushing with 303 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns and Devwah Whaley has added 104 rushing yards and a pair of rushing scores this season. Trey Knox leads Arkansas’ receiving corps with 13 catches for 216 yards while Treylon Burks, Mike Woods and Cheyenne O’Grady each have 100+ receiving yards this season. Defensively, Kamren Curl leads Arkansas with 22 tackles including 17 solo tackles and a pair of sacks while De’Jon Harris is right behind with 21 tackles and Bumper Pool is in 3rd with 19 tackles. Gabe Richardson also has 2.5 sacks for the Hogs this season. As a team, Arkansas is averaging 425.3 yards of total offense and 30.7 points per game this season.
San Jose State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 non-conference games. Arkansas is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 2-8-2 ATS in their last 12 non-conference games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games in September.
I think it’s fairly safe to say that Arkansas is the better team here and should be favored after racking up some serious offense against Colorado State while San Jose State lost at home. However, the Spartans have a recent history of keeping pace on the road, and covered against a pretty good Oregon team out of conference last season, losing by 13 points as 42.5-point underdogs. I’m not ready to lay three touchdowns with Arkansas after one big week, so I’ll take my chances on San Jose State and the points in this one.
