The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Auburn Tigers meet in a week 5 SEC conference college football tilt from Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs will look to build some momentum with a big road win after improving to 3-1 on the year after a 28-13 win over Kentucky in their last outing. Tommy Stevens leads the Bulldogs with 441 passing yards, 5 touchdowns and 2 picks on 65.5% passing while Garrett Shrader has put up 302 yards and a pick on 62.2% passing. Kylin Hill leads the Bulldogs on the ground with 551 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns while the aforementioned Shrader has 223 rushing yards. Osirus Mitchell leads Mississippi State’s receiving corps with 17 catches for 244 yards and 3 touchdowns while Deddrick Thomas has 109 receiving yards. Defensively, Jaquarius Landrews leads Mississippi State with 31 total tackles including 20 solo tackles while Erroll Thompson is right behind with 30 and C.J. Morgan has 28 total tackles on the year. As a team, Mississippi State is averaging 414 yards of total offense and 32 points per game while allowing 357.2 yards of total defense and 21.8 points per game against this season.
The Auburn Tigers will look to remain unbeaten and build on their 4-0 start to the year after a 28-20 win on the road against Texas A&M in their last outing. Bo Nix has thrown for 645 yards, 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 53.8% passing while JaTarvious Whitlow leads Auburn in rushing with 408 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns and Joey Gatewood has 128 rushing yards and 3 rushing TDs. Eli Stove leads Auburn’s receiving group with 17 grabs for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns while Seth Williams has 128 receiving yards with a pair of scores and Will Hastings has 124 receiving yards of his own. Defensively, Jeremiah Dinson leads Auburn with 30 total tackles including 21 solo tackles while Marlon Davidson has 2.5 sacks and Tyrone Truesdell leads Auburn with 3 sacks through 4 games this season. As a team, Auburn is averaging 414 yards of total offense and 32 points per game while allowing 357.2 yards of total defense and 21.8 points per game against this season.
Mississippi State is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games while the under is 49-23-1 in their last 73 conference games. Auburn is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 21-9-1 in their last 31 games against a team with a winning record. Mississippi State is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
Points may be hard to come by in this one as you have two physical teams battling in an SEC conference matchup, and the points with Mississippi State could be worth a look here. However, while I’m not the most confident believer in Bo Nix, there’s something to be said about what Auburn’s accomplished in their 4-0 start to the year. The Tigers just beat Texas A&M as an underdog on the road and the Tigers also have a neutral site victory over Oregon under their belt this season. Auburn is also a top-20 team against the rush this season, and if they can neutralize the likes of Kylin Hill for Mississippi State, I don’t trust the Bulldogs’ QB play to get them through, so I’ll lay the points with Auburn in this one.
