The Line: Ball State Cardinals -2 -- Over/Under:
College football comes to Scheumann Stadium when the Ball State Cardinals host the Akron Zips.
The Akron Zips were looking for their third straight win and a ton of momentum but unfortunately the Western Michigan Broncos had other plans in a 41-0 decision. The Zips struggled on both sides of the ball with the Broncos rolling up a 585-283 yardage edge while forcing a pair of turnovers which hurts a team with less then 300 yards of offense. Zips quarterback Tra’Von Chapman struggled mightily in the passing attack as he went 13-31 for 153 yards and a pair of interceptions with receivers Austin Jackson, Jojo Natson and Jerome Lane accounting for all but 15 yards through the air. Manny Morgan and Chapman totaled 102 yards on 22 touches but the ground game need much more then that.
The Ball State Cardinals knew a loss at the Buffalo Bulls probably would end their postseason hopes so a 31-21 victory lifted their record to 4-3 to give the team hope. Many have claimed the Cardinals might be a bit over rated and it looked that way as they trailed 14-7 at the break before a 24-7 second half run gave them an easy win. Ball State won the battle for yards 568-465 but hurt themselves with three turnovers which cost them on the scoreboard. Cardinals quarterback Riley Neal connected on 12-22 for 212 yards but a pair of interceptions meant losing points. KeVonn Mabon led Ball State with five catches for 84 yards but James Gilbert was the star with 264 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on 34 totes.
The over is 5-1 in Akron last 6 games following a straight up loss of more than 20 points and the over is 4-1 in Akron last 5 road games while Akron are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in October. The under is 4-0 in Ball State last 4 conference games and the under is 6-0 in Cardinals last 6 games in October and the under is 4-0 in Ball State last 4 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game. The over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and Akron are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
No line has been released because of the Zips injuries at quarterback with several teams nursing injuries under center in the MAC...
