The Line: Boise State Broncos -29 -- Over/Under:
The Idaho State Bengals take the field with the Boise State Broncos at Albertson’s Stadium on Friday.
The Idaho State Bengals struggled on both sides of the line of scrimmage in a 34-14 home loss to conference rival Portland State. The Vikings won the yardage battle 332-242 with the special teams allowing a 94 yard kick return. The Bengals received 177 passing yards from Michael Sanders who connected for a pair of touchdowns and two interceptions while Tanner Gueller went 1-2 for four yards and another interception. Xavier Finley was the Idaho State running game with 87 yards on 23 carries with his longest run being 12 yards. Josh Cook paced the ISU receiving corps with four receptions for 75 yards including a 48 yards scoring catch but the offense struggled to move the chains in general.
I am a fan of the Boise State Broncos but all the preseason accolades about how ‘loaded’ this team is have over done it with the praise. Good teams make plays late in games and the Broncos did not in a 35-24 defeat at Brigham Young where the Cougars outscored the visitors 21-0 in the 4th. BYU won the yardage battle 384-364 and threw two picks but Boise had zero running game and were mistake prone in the passing attack. Jeremy McNichols ran for 46 yards on 15 totes with two scores so the Broncos turned to their passing game where Ryan Finley hit on 25-38 for 297 yards and a touchdown but three interceptions and a pick six made this a dismal performance. The defense gave up TD throws of 84 yards and 35 yards to essentially a backup QB so there was blame to go around.
The over is 8-0 in Bengals last 8 games overall. and is 4-0 in Bengals last 4 games following a S.U. loss while going 5-0 in Bengals last 5 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game. The Broncos are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game and the over is 4-0 in Broncos last 4 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game while Boise State are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game. The ‘load’ Broncos should name their score if they want to but they might just want a win and get out of there…
