The Line: Boston College Eagles -28.5 -- Over/Under:
The Maine Black Bears look for the upset of the Boston College Eagles on opening day.
The Maine Black Bears are facing Boston College for the second straight season after getting blasted 40-10 last year. The Black Bears bring back a veteran group with as many as 20 starters returning so if experience is the key to success this team is in a good position although when a team is outscored 21-16 there are some obvious needs on offense. QB Daniel Collins averaged almost 150 yards per game but leading receiver Damarr Aultman (48-498) is gone and that’s a big loss with yards and points being precious. Leading rusher Nigel Beckford and the O-Line need to break the 500 yard barrier and the rush attack as a whole need far more then 110 yards per contest. The defense gave up just 317 yards and will be the strength of this team once again.
The Boston College Eagles were an extremely competitive squad in 2014 with a Bowl loss which left them with a 7-6 record. The Eagles lost one game by more then ten points which says a fortuitous bounce or two and BC could have won a few more games. The defensive minded Eagles outscored the opposition 26-21 and turn to three star quarterback to take over under center for 1,600 yard passer Tyler Murphy. Who also ran for over 1,300 yards. The running of Jon Hillaman (211-860) and Miles Willis (88-459) might need to carry the attack until the Eagles mesh in the air with the three leading receivers gone although the entire line needs rebuilding. The defensive line is largely intact but the secondary needs help but the linebacking crew has plenty of three star athletes. The bottom line is defensive side of the football will likely carry this team until the ‘O’ gels.
The under is 4-1 in Eagles last 5 games on fieldturf and the over is 3-1-1 in Eagles last 5 games in September while the under is 22-8 in Eagles last 30 non-conference games. I think Maine should be an improved team bases on loads of players back although their defense will be the best unit on the field. On the flip side Boston College los lost enough talent to where I’m looking at the points a bit more in this match up…
