The Eastern Michigan Eagles look to continue winning when they visit the Bowling Green Falcons.
Even an improved Wyoming squad could not stop Eastern Michigan in a 27-24 decision as a three point road favorite. The score was close but EMU won the yardage battle 500-313 but hurt themselves with four turnovers. The Eagles were balanced with the ability to run and throw with quarterback Todd Porter going 14-28 for 214 yards and a touchdown with four interceptions including a pick six. Porter added 61 yards with his legs while Ian Eriksen led the Eagles with 130 rushing yards on 27 carries and a trip to the endzone. Nigel Kilby and Sergio Bailey led the Eastern Michigan receiving corps with nine catches for150 yards.
The Bowling Green Falcons need a confidence boost after a 77-3 defeat at Memphis dropped them to 1-3 and was the second time the defense allowed 77 points. The Tigers piled up 635 yards while the Falcons were held to 294 yards which made their four turnovers really stick out like a sore thumb. BGSU obviously needed a viable rushing attack but Fred Coppet’s 12 carry, 46 yard effort was all they could muster. The Falcons found no relief through the air with quarterback Jeff Knapke going 6-13 for 82 yards and three interceptions including a pick six before James Morgan came in to go 17-34 for 126 yards and a pick with Marquis Zimmerman catching four balls for 75 yards to lead the team.
I’ll say I’m not shocked by the Falcons record but I am surprised by what I have seen. Eastern Michigan on the other hand does not have a history of success on the football field but I do like what I have seen so far. I don’t know if the winning lasts but I’ll take the points….
