CFB | Akron Zips (3-3) at Bowling Green Falcons (4-2)

The Akron Zips will travel to Doyt Perry Stadium to take on the Bowling Green Falcons this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.

The Akron Zips used a big first half to defeat the Eastern Michigan Eagles 47-21 this past Saturday to improve to 3-3 (1-1 MAC-East) on the season. The Zips, who generally known for their defensive outgained the Eagles by a 500-413 margin and forced Eastern Michigan into committing three turnovers. Leading the way for the Zips in the victory was RB Conor Hundley who had 119 yards and 2 TD on 17 carries. On the season, Akron is averaging 26.0 ppg on 372.3 yards per game (196.2 passing, 176.2 rushing). The Zips are led by RB Conor Hundley who on the season has 474 yards and 6 TD on 85 carries. QB Thomas Woodson is currently completing just 51.8% of his passes and is averaging just 149.7 yards per game. Jerome Lane (12 rec, 346 yards, 4 TD) and Imani Davis (19 rec, 293, 2 TD) lead the way for the WR’s for the Zips. Defensively, Akron has been solid as they are holding their opponents to just 20.5 ppg on 329.0 yards (225.2 passing, 103.8 rushing). The Zips have forced 12 turnovers on the season and have a plus-6 turnover margin. The Zips defense is led by LB Jatavis Brown who had 52 tackles and 5 sacks on the season.

The Bowling Green Falcons once again had their high powered offensive on display and defeated the UMass Minutemen 62-38 this past Saturday. Bowling Green gained an amazing 725 yards of offense in the victory and forced UMass into committing two turnovers. Leading the way for the Falcons was QB Matt Johnson who completed 33 of 39 passes for 450 yards, 5 TD, and 1 Int. Bowling Green has been outstanding on the offensive end this season as they are averaging 40.7 ppg on 604.7 yards per game (435.3 passing, 169.3 rushing). QB Matt Johnson won the starting job prior to the season and hasn’t disappointed as he is currently completing 69.1% of his passes for 2534 yards, 19 TD, and 3 Int. Roger Lewis has been one of the best WR’s in the country as he currently has 902 yards and 7 TD on 48 receptions. The rushing attack is led by Travis Greene who had 473 yards and 4 TD on 81 carries. Bowling Green has struggled on the defensive end as they are currently allowing 36.3 ppg on 488.0 yards per game (326.5 passing, 161.5 rushing). The Falcons have only forced 8 turnovers on the season but do have a plus-2 turnover margin on the season. Leading the way for the defense has been LB Austin Valdez (61 tackles) and DL Taylor Royster (23 tackles, 3 sacks).

The Zips are 14-6 ATS in their last 20 games following a SU win of more than 20 points however, just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 conference games. The Falcons are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall however, just 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 conference games.

Bowling Green has been almost unstoppable on the offensive end this season however, they have yet to play a defensive that is as talented and experienced as the Zips. The Zips held Bowling Green to just 27 points last season in their contest last season and as Akron showed against Eastern Michigan that they can put up points against a weak defense, I’m going to take the Zips and the points in this one. Take Akron and the points.

Akron Zips +11.5
