The Morgan State Bears and the Bowling Green Falcons will match up on the college football circuit on Thursday.

The Bears are coming off a pretty disappointing season on the surface, finishing 4-7 overall and 3-4 in MEAC play for a sixth-place finish (tie) in the conference. That said, it was quite an improvement over the 2017 season (1-10).

This season, Morgan State will try to move forward further with first-year head coach Tyrone Wheatley. He’s got quite a job ahead of him, starting with this opener against the Falcons.

Speaking of Bowling Green, they’ve got some room for improvement as well after finishing the 2018 season at 3-9 and 2-6 in MAC play. That gave the Falcons a fourth-place finish (tie) in the East Division.

Bowling Green also has a first-year head coach this season in Scot Loeffler. He’ll be joined by a pair of first-year offensive (Terry Malone) and defensive (Brian VanGorder) coordinators as well, so it will be interesting to see what the new regime can do.

The over is 6-1 in the Bears’ last seven road games and 6-1 in their last seven non-conference games. The over is also 6-1 in Morgan State’s last seven overall.

Meanwhile, the Falcons are 1-12 ATS in their last 13 non-conference games and the under is 5-0 in their last five overall. The under is also 5-0 in Bowling Green’s last five on turf.

The line on this one is pretty thick, and rightfully so. The last time these squads met was in 2011, and Bowling Green came away with a 58-13 home victory.

That said, the new regime and first-game jitters may give the Bears an opportunity to get in a little closer than some people expect. I like Morgan State to sneak out with a cover in this one.
