The Line: BYU Cougars -8.5 -- Over/Under:
Lavell Edwards Stadium will be rocking when the East Carolina Pirates visit the Brigham Young Cougars.
The East Carolina Pirates have looked good in back to back victories that have improved their record to 3-2. The Pirates cranked up their offense in a 49-23 rout at Southern Methodist behind a 555 yards and a 28-0 second half run. The ECU defense gave up 329 yards with most coming in the first half. ECU struggled under center in the first half with Blake throwing for 96 yards and a score and a pair of picks before James Summers came on to complete 9-10 for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Trevon Brown led the receivers with four catches for 85 yards and a TD while Chris Hairston, Summers and Anthony Scott were a solid threesome on the ground with 255 yards and four TD’s on 39 carries.
The Brigham Young Cougars snapped a two game losing streak behind outstanding defense and some late scoring to down Connecticut 30-13. The Huskies were held to 230 yards and threw a pair of interceptions while the Cougars amassed 539 yards and blew open a close contest with a 20 points scoring burst over the final 15 minutes. BYU did most of their damage in the air behind quarterback Tanner Magnum who completed 35-53 for 365 yards and a pair of touchdowns and two interceptions. Terenn Houk was the top receiving option with 129 yards on six receptions while Mitch Matthews caught six passes for 78 yards and two TD’s. Algeron Brown led BYU on the ground with 95 yards on 18 totes with Francis Bernard adding 69 yards and a score on eleven carries.
The over is 5-0 in Pirates last 5 games following a ATS win and is 4-0 in Pirates last 4 games following a S.U. win while the Pirates are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game. The over is 4-1 in Cougars last 5 games in October while the Cougars are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game and BYU are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in October. I’m leaning points here but I’m not feeling this game either way…
