Lavell Edwards Stadium and the Brigham Young Cougars face the UNLV Rebels in week 12 action.
The UNLV Rebels look for the huge road upset of Brigham Young Saturday which would be the highlight of their season. The Rebels have been competitive in stretches but putting everything together for a full 60 minutes has obviously been a problem. It was an issue in a 48-21 loss to visiting Air Force in week eleven although the Rebels trailed by 21 at the break and never challenged with the Falcons totaling 542 yards and doing plenty of damage on the ground. On the flip side UNLV fidn't have a rushing attack to lean on but Blake Decker threw the ball well on 18-32 completions for 263 yards with Devante Davis leading the receiving corps with six catches for 114 yards and a touchdown.
After largely playing poorly in four consecutive defeats the Brigham Young Cougars were in desperate need of a victory with their season quickly fading away. The Cougars finally stopped the bleeding with a 27-7 victory at a dangerous Middle Tennessee State squad. A 20-0 second half run broke open a 7-7 contest and the Cougars defense held a pretty good Blue Raiders offense to 228 yards and picked off a pair of passes. BYU countered with 444 yards with a little running and a whole lot of passing. Christian Stewart connected on 28-45 for 316 yards with 19 yard and 37 yard touchdowns to Jordan Leslie and Colby Pearson while also scoring on a one yard run. The key for this team is duplicating this performance going forward.
The over is 4-0 in Rebels last 4 games following a bye week while the Rebels are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game. For Brigham Young the Cougars are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 vs. MWC while going 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a bye week. Head to head the over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings. If Brigham Young performs as they did against Middle Tennessee State then I think they cover versus UNLV but the question is will the Cougars come through again...
