The Line: California Golden Bears +7 -- Over/Under: 74.5
The Cal Golden Bears and the UCLA Bruins face off on Saturday in Berkley for a Pac-12 college football matchup of 4-2 teams.
The Cal Golden Bears are an improved team over what we saw last season but even so they are a work in progress. Cal’s offense is averaging 42.8 points and 518.3 yards per game with QB Jared Goff completing 65.5 percent of his passes with 22 touchdowns and three interceptions. Daniel Lasco leads the Cal ground attack averaging 5.8 yards per carry with four touchdowns and Bryce Treggs leads the receivers with 29 receptions followed by Kenny Lawler with 25 and each have five touchdowns. The California defense allows 38.8 points and 402 yards per game with six interceptions, a fumble recovery, and 10 sacks. Griffin Platt leads the Bears in tackles with 32.5, Cameron Walker has 31, and Michael Barton has 28. Cal’s defense has been chewed up in Pac-12 games this year.
The UCLA Bruins have lost their last two games after starting the season unbeaten as they look to get back on track. The UCLA offense is averaging 35 points and 480 yards per game with QB Brett Hundley completing 72.2 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions and he has rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns. Paul Perkins leads the Bruins in rushing averaging 6.3 yards per carry and Jordan Peyton is UCLA’s leading receiver with 37 catches and five touchdowns and Devin Fuller has 26 tackles. The UCLA defense is allowing 28.5 points and 435.5 yards per game with four interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and seven sacks. Eric Kendricks has 68 tackles, Myles Jack has 47 tackles, and Jaleel Wadood has 34 tackles. UCLA has surrendered 25 sacks this season and when they have struggled that has been their undoing.
Cal is 6-17 against the spread in their last 23 games, 4-12 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 3-14 against the spread in their last 17 home games. UCLA is 1-4 against the spread following a loss, 1-5 against the spread in their last six games, and 4-1 against the spread following a double-digit home loss. The home team has covered the point spread in the last four meetings of these two.
he total is at 74.5 and I can see this one going over that in a shootout and the Over in my free pick. My stronger pick is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
