The Line: California Golden Bears -12 -- Over/Under: 61
The California Golden Bears and the San Diego State Aztecs face off on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in a college football matchup.
We didn’t learn much about the Cal Golden Bears in their opener as they played an inferior Gambling State team and never took their foot off of the gas running up the score in the win. Cal QB Jared Goff completed 75 percent of his passes for 309 yards and three touchdowns before Chase Forrest took over. The Bears rushing attack was led by Khalfani Muhammad who rushed just eight time but gained 97 yards and Kenny lawler had six catches for 69 yards with three of them going for touchdowns. The Cal defense looked vulnerable allowing 127 rushing yards and 297 total yards. Devante Downs was Cal’s leading tackler with six and an interception and Khari Vanderbilt and Luke Rubener were among those Bears with four tackles. The best case Cal made in their opening game is that FBS schools simply shouldn’t schedule FCS schools, as they are really just embarrassing themselves.
The San Diego State Aztecs played FCS San Diego in their opener and walked away with a hollow win. SDSU QB Maxwell Smith completed just 42 percent of his passes for 100 yards while rushing three times for 23 yards. Donne Pumphrey led all SDSU rusher with 19 carries gaining 62 yards and scoring a TD while Chase Price ran 10 times for 66 yards while Rashaad Penny was among the Aztecs with two receptions but he also had a kick return that went to the house for a touchdown. Calvin Munson was the top San Diego State defender with 11 tackles, a sack, and two interceptions, Jake Fely has nine tackles, and Damontae Kazee had three interceptions. While it’s tough to tell much form their frist game, SDSU’s defense looks to have a good nose for the football.
Cal is 1-4 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread and 4-1 against the spread following a win. San Diego State is 4-0 against the spread in their last four non-conference games.
I am not sure what to make of either of these teams but I know laying points with Cal has been death recently so I will take the points with SDSU.
