The Line: Central Michigan Chippewas -12 -- Over/Under:
Kelly/Shorts Stadium and the Central Michigan Chippewas host the Ball State Cardinals in week six action.
The Ball State Cardinals had a chance to take a big step towards a Bowl with a win versus visiting Northern Illinois but an early lead went by the wayside in a 31-24 defeat to fall to 3-2. The Huskies could not be stopped as they amassed a 652-427 yardage advantage which might have been an even bigger edge if not for three turnovers. The Cardinals were a bit pass heavy although they proved capable at running and throwing. Ball State quarterback Riley Neal completed 23-40 for 276 yards but could not find the endzone and needed to. The duo of KeVonn Mabon and Damon Hazelton Jr .combined for 189 receiving yards on 12 receptions while James Gilbert rambled for 119 yards on 22 totes with three trips to the endzone.
If any team in the MAC needs to rebound, it might be the Central Michigan Chippewas who took one on the chin in a 49-10 defeat to visiting Western Michigan that dropped them to 3-2. The Chips trailed in yards by a 424-277 count and lost the turnover battle 2-0. The Chips really needed a bigger effort from the rushing attack to keep the potent Broncos offense on the sideline but a combined 89 yards from Devon Spalding and Jahray Hayes wasn’t enough to accomplish that goal. CMU quarterback Cooper Rush couldn’t keep the team competitive on 17-29 for 178 yards and a touchdown and a costly 85 yard pick six. Mark Chapman gave Central Michigan 70 receiving yards and their lone touchdown while Corey Willis caught seven passes for 68 yards.
Ball State are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and the under is 5-1 in Ball State’s last 6 vs. a team with a winning record while Ball State are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game. Central Michigan are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and the under is 4-0 in Central Michigan’s last 4 vs. a team with a winning record while the under is 6-0 in Central Michigan’s last 6 games following a double-digit loss at home. Ball State are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings in Central Michigan and Ball State are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings while the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
I like Central Michigan because I’m not sure if Ball State is on their level…
