The Florida Atlantic Owls and the Charlotte 49ers take the field at Jerry Richardson Stadium.
The Florida Atlantic Owls did everything but win in a 33-15 loss to visiting Buffalo where every mistake gave the Bulls points. The Owls dominated yardage 490-290 but were killed by five turnovers. Each team recorded safeties while UB returned a pair of fumbles for scores and had a pick six. FAU had a productive passing attack going with Jeff Driskel throwing for 395 yards and a pair of touchdowns and an interceptions. Jenson Stoshak and Kamrin Solomon paced FAU in receiving with a combined 244 yards on 12 receptions while Greg Howell ran for 75 yards on 14 carries.
The Charlotte 49ers began life in the FBS with a 2-0 record before Middle Tennessee State showed that things weren’t going to be easy with a one sided 73-14 rout in week three. This one was over before it began with the Blue Raiders building a 42-7 lead after one quarter and never letting up. MTSU rolled up almost 700 yards while Charlotte managed 219 yards with three lost fumbles and four picks which made their struggles obviously too much to overcome. The 49ers used three quarterbacks with Matt Johnson doing the best on 5-12 for 60 yards and a pair of picks. Kalif Phillips was the 49ers best offensive player with 72 rushing yards on 15 carries but most of the bright spots belonged to the Blue Raiders.
The over is 5-0 in Owls last 5 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game. And the Owls are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a winning home record while going 14-2 ATS in their last 16 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game. Not sure if the line is right but even without Johnson at QB I’d take FAU and the points…
