The Line: Charlotte 49ers +23.5 -- Over/Under:
The Temple Owls head south to Jerry Richardson Stadium to take the field with the Charlotte 49ers.
The Temple Owls have had a week off to celebrate their 3-0 start to the season following a 25-23 road win over the high octane offense of Massachusetts. A return of a PAT and a field goal with 12 seconds remaining gave the Owls five points in the final 1:20 of the game. Both teams finished with around 450 yards and a combined five turnovers. Jahad Thomas was Temple’s ground game with 66 yards on 25 carries with a trip to the end zone but the air was where the team prospered. PJ Thomas gave the Owls 391 yards on 28-48 with a touchdown and a pair of interceptions with John Christopher grabbing seven balls for 72 yards while Robby Anderson totaled 69 yards on two receptions.
The Charlotte 49ers could have been the surprise team of the early going with a win against visiting Florida Atlantic but a 17-7 defeat dropped them to 2-2. On This was a mistake filled defensive struggle with Charlotte holding a slight 206-184 advantage. Both teams recorded pick six’s. The 49ers were fantastic rushing the ball behind Kalif Phillips who rumbled for 165 yards on 29 carries. Unfortunately the passing attack was not effective at all and Florida Atlantic didn’t really take advantage. Quarterback Lee McNeill hurt Charlotte through the air with 89 yards on 11-31 with four interceptions while Matt Johnson went 0-3 with a pair of picks.
The under is 5-0 in Owls last 5 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous games and the under is 5-0 in Owls last 5 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game while the over is 5-1 in Owls last 6 games on turf. I might take a look at the total when released but I don’t like this one where it stands now….
