The FAU Owls and the Charlotte 49ers meet in a week 5 C-USA college football matchup in conference action from Jerry Richardson Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The FAU Owls will look to build on back-to-back wins to get back to .500 after improving to 2-2 on the year with a 42-7 win over Wagner in their last outing. Chris Robison has thrown for 1,100 yards, 10 touchdowns and an interception on 64.9% passing while Larry McCammon III leads the Owls with 218 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. Harrison Bryant has team-highs of 15 grabs for 249 yards while John Mitchell has 15 catches for 222 yards and 3 touchdowns and Tavaris Harrison has 213 yards to make up the 3rd 200-yard receiver for FAU this season. Deangelo Antoine and John Raine each have 4 and 3 receiving touchdowns respectively this season. Defensively, Rashad Smith has a team-high 34 total tackles including 18 solo tackles while Akileis Leroy has 27 total tackles including 18 total tackles and 3.5 sacks this season. As a team, FAU is averaging 389 yards of total offense and 29.5 points per game while allowing 431.8 yards of total defense and 32.8 points per game against this season.

The Charlotte 49ers will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last four games following a 52-10 loss to Clemson in their last outing. Chris Reynolds has thrown for 630 yards, 7 touchdowns and 3 picks on 63.3% passing while Benny LeMay leads the 49ers in rushing with 432 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns and Ishod Finger has 225 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Micaleous Elder has 207 receiving yards on a team-high 12 receptions while Cameron Dollar and Victor Tucker each have 11 grabs for 100+ receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Defensively, Marquavis Gibbs leads the Bills with 28 total tackles while Jacione Fugate has 23 total tackles including 20 solo tackles. Prince Bemah and Markees Watts each have 2.5 sacks this season. As a team, Charlotte is averaging 445.8 yards of total offense and 38 points per game while allowing 351.2 yards of total defense and 38.2 points per game against this season.

FAU is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games in September while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games overall. Charlotte is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 home games and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 conference games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. The under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.

This is an interesting game on the schedule as there’s no shame in Charlotte getting beat down by Clemson as it’s happened to better teams and neither side has beaten up on anyone noteworthy in their victories. However, FAU was supposed to have the reputation of an offensive power and it’s only been recently that the Owls have awoken from their slumber. On the other hand, Charlotte had been rolling on offense, putting up at least 41 in each of their first three games before falling to Clemson. It’s hard to call, which is probably why this game is near a pick ‘em. I don’t love this game, but if forced to pick, I’d think this is the game that bucks the trends and goes over the total.
