The East Carolina Pirates battle the Cincinnati Bearcats in American Athletic action on Saturday.
The East Carolina Pirates had won three straight since they hung 70 points on North Carolina but their performances were less then impressive. Things finally caught up to the Pirates in a 20-10 defeat at Temple in week ten which dropped the team from the national rankings. The offense has been ordinary in this stretch and was less then that versus the Owls with 428 yards and seven fumbles with five lost which was the difference with the Owls totaling 135 yards. Shane Carden completed 24-41 for 217 yards but he hasn't been explosive while Chris Hairston paced the rushing attack with 153 yards on 21 carries as East Carolina dominated everywhere but on the scoreboard and turnover department.
Cincinnati began the season in the national picture until they dropped three in a row with their defense not stopping a thing. However the Bearcats have been getting stops and scoring with the result being a three game winning streak capped off by a 38-14 victory at Tulane. The Bearcats opened a 24-0 lead at the half and were never challenged as they rolled up a 479-380 yardage edge despite three turnovers. The balanced Cinci attack saw quarterback Munchie Legaux connect on 16-24 for 211 with three touchdowns and an interception. The duo of Rod Moore and Mike Boone dominated on the ground with a combined 237 yards on 15 carries apiece with Boone adding a 24 yard touchdown scamper. The Bearcats also recovered a fumble in the endzone for another score.
The under is 4-0 in Pirates last 4 games following a ATS loss while the Pirates are 11-0 ATS in their last 11 games following a S.U. loss and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. For Cincinnati the under is 4-0 in Bearcats last 4 conference games and is 4-0 in Bearcats last 4 games on fieldturf while the over is 5-1 in Bearcats last 6 vs. a team with a winning record. East Carolina has been tough to back lately and are difficult to back here but I think they have the edge although I'm not putting money on them...
