The Line: Cincinnati Bearcats -6.5 -- Over/Under:
The Cincinnati Bearcats welcome the Houston Cougars to Nippert Stadium in AAC action.
The Houston Cougars are looking to end the regular season on a high note when they visit Cincinnati on Saturday. The Cougars have won consecutive contests after thumping Southern Methodist 35-9 in week 14 as a three touchdown favorite. The Mustangs led this 9-0 heading to the locker room before a 28-0 UH run ended any thoughts of an upset. The Mustangs mustered just 233 yards and ten first downs while Houston totaled 433 yards with 282 yards coming on the ground. Greg Ward Jr. completed 17-28 for 144 yards and an interception but ran for 93 yards and three scores while Kenneth Farrow paced Houston on the ground with 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The Cincinnati Bearcats have had resurgence of sorts with vastly improved play on the defensive side of the football and that's helped lead the way to six consecutive victories. The defense saved the day in a 14-6 win at Temple in week 14 with the Owls held to a pair of field goals an losing two fumbles. The offense needed all the help they could get with just 255 yards in their lowest output of the season. Mike Boone was the face of the Cincinnati rushing attack with 62 yards on 14 carries with a one yard scoring plunge. Quarterback Gunner Kiel completed 19-31 for 174 yards with a three yard touchdown toss to Mekale McKay who led the receiving corps with six catches for 39 yards as the Bearcats did all their scoring in the second quarter.
The Cougars are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game and are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record while the under is 5-1 in Cougars last 6 road games. For Cincinnati the Bearcats are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games on fieldturf and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall while going 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win. Cincinnati has been able to score throughout the season but couldn't get stops early on. If they continue to play defense as they have I like them here....
