The Navy Midshipmen and Cincinnati Bearcats meet Saturday in college football action at Nippert Stadium.
The Navy Midshipmen look for their first road victory of the season to drastically improve their chances at a bowl berth. The Navy Midshipmen have lost each of their last seven road games. Garret Lewis is completing 46.7 percent of his passes for 398 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Navy Midshipmen have three touchdown passes this season on 87 pass attempts. Taylor Jackson and CJ Williams have combined for 346 receiving yards and one touchdown while Mychal Cooper has five receptions. The Navy Midshipmen ground game is averaging 307.8 yards per contest, and Perry leads the way with 862 yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively, Navy is allowing 35.5 points and 440.3 yards per game. Taylor Heflin leads the Navy Midshipmen with 57 tackles, Nizaire Cromartie has three sacks and Jarid Ryan has three interceptions.
The Cincinnati Bearcats look to remain undefeated at home to remain in the thick of the AAC title conversation. The Cincinnati Bearcats have won each of their last four home games. Desmond Ridder is completing 62 percent of his passes for 1,525 yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. Ridder has two or more touchdown passes in five of his last six games. Kahlil Lewis and Josiah Deguara have combined for 757 receiving yards and eight touchdowns while Rashad Medaris has 16 receptions. The Cincinnati Bearcats ground game is averaging 232.2 yards per contest, and Michael Warren II leads the way with 863 yards and 12 touchdowns. Defensively, Cincinnati is allowing 15.8 points and 289.3 yards per game. Perry Young leads the Cincinnati Bearcats with 41 tackles, Cortez Broughton has four sacks and James Wiggins has three interceptions.
The Midshipmen are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 conference games, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games and 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Bearcats are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 conference games, 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games in November and 4-14 ATS in their last 18 home games. The under is 27-13-1 in Bearcats last 41 games overall and the under is 7-3 in Midshipmen last 10 road games.
The Navy Midshipmen continue what has been an awful season, as the defense continues to slip and with the losses piling up, they're now 1-7 ATS on the season. The Cincinnati Bearcats went from beating the hell out of everybody to playing in overtime back-to-back weeks and watching the offense struggle. The Navy Midshipmen are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games when a double-digit underdog. The Cincinnati Bearcats are 2-0 ATS this season when a double-digit favorite. I love getting Navy and free points, as it's not easy to prepare for the triple-option on short rest. But the bottom line is that Navy has been an underdog often this season and the covers aren't coming. So, while I don't want to lay big points with Cincinnati, I can't keep backing Navy and the points only to get burned.
