Wofford Terriers (2-2) vs. Citadel Bulldogs (1-3)
|Date & Time||Saturday October 4, 2014, 1:30 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Wofford Terriers +2 -- Over/Under: 51.5
The Citadel Bulldogs and Wofford Terriers will play Saturday afternoon at Gibbs Stadium on ESPN3.
The Citadel Bulldogs are coming off their first win of the season over Gardner-Webb and can only hope their offense can carry that momentum over to this game. Citadel’s lack of passing game has really held the Bulldogs back, as Aaron Miller is completing just 31.8 percent of his passes for 271 yards and one touchdown. Citadel has scored 18 or less points in all three of its losses this season and has lost 12 straight games when scoring 24 or fewer points, which dates back to 2012. The good news is that Citadel is averaging 5.2 yards per carry with Aaron Miller rushing for three touchdowns and 340 yards, while Jake Stenson is averaging 10 yards per touch on 28 carries. Citadel has to create a few more plays through the air if they’re going to have any success the rest of this season. Defensively, the Citadel Bulldogs are allowing 25.5 points per game, 369.5 yards and have 13 sacks. Tevin Floyd leads Citadel with 32 tackles and Justin Oxendine has 3.5 sacks.
The Wofford Terriers are looking for their third straight home win with a victory here. Wofford has shown a lot more promise offensively, scoring 36 or more points in three straight games and averaging 36.5 on the season. Evan Jacks is completing 59 percent of his passes for three touchdowns and three interceptions, and he’s also second on the team with 285 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Wofford has been a running machine out of the gate, averaging more than six yards per carry and getting a lot of production out of Lorenzo Long, who leads the Terriers with 327 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Wofford has had little issues moving the ball and putting points on the board. Defensively, however, the Wofford Terriers are allowing 30.7 points per game, 405 yards and have six sacks. Kevin Thomas leads Wofford with 22 tackles and Dylan Young has 2.5 sacks.
We're getting the home team with the better offense and the points. You have to like the Wofford Terriers in this spot. Yes, the lack of defense is concerning, but Citadel can't throw the ball to save their life, which should help the Terriers get off the field a little more than usual. Wofford should win this game SU.
