The Furman Paladins come to visit the Clemson Tigers in college football action at Clemson Memorial Stadium on September 1.

Furman is coming off a 2017 season in which they finished 8-5 and 6-2 in SoCon play. That record got them in a tie for second place, and the Paladins got an at-large bid to the FCS Playoffs. Furman took out Elon in the first round but fell to Wofford in the next game.

Head coach Clay Hendrix will take charge for Furman in his second year, alongside new OC George Quarrels and second-year defensive coordinator Chadd Staggs.

As for Clemson, they managed to go 12-2 overall last season and 7-1 in the ACC. The Tigers won the Conference Championship over Miami (FL) and got a number one seed in the College Football Playoff. In the semifinal, Clemson lost to eventual champion Alabama.

The good news for the Tigers is that QB Kelly Bryant will be back this season, following 2802 yards with 13 touchdowns and eight picks last year. Travis Etienne and Tavien Feaster will return as the RB tandem after their 20 combined rush TDs last season.

The Paladins are 5-1 ATS in their last six games in September and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games overall. Furman is also 9-2 ATS in the last 11 road games.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games on grass and 8-1 ATS in their last nine non-conference games. The under is 6-1-1 in Clemson’s last eight home games.

Clemson will come into this season with high expectations, and honestly they can reach those expectations if things go their way. All of that said, Furman may be able to hold up a little bit here and bite into that thick line. I don’t think the Paladins can hang around for too long, but it should be enough to get in there.
