The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers head into Thursday’s game after beating the University of Troy 36-35 in their last game. In their game against Troy, Coastal Carolina was led by quarterback Bryce Carpenter who completed 32 of 45 passes for 285 yards and a touchdown. The Chanticleers running game was also strong against Troy, which included Jacqez Hariston who ran just 7 times for 72 yards, but scored 2 touchdowns. The other rushing touchdown was scored by C.J. On the year, Coastal Carolina is 4-4 including a 1-3 record in Sun Belt Conference play which puts them in last in the Sun Belt East. Carpenter has played well this season, throwing for 648 yards and 7 touchdowns without throwing an interception. Carpenter took the place of Fred Payton who has thrown for 1,009 yards on the season while throwing for 6 touchdown passes but also 6 interceptions. Marable has been the Chanticleers lead rusher on the season and has carried the ball 123 times for 596 yards and 7 touchdowns. Heiligh has been the teams leading receiver on the season as he has caught 39 passes for 432 yards and 2 touchdowns on the year.
Louisiana has scored 37.1 points per game and given up 18.4 points per game so far this season. Meanwhile, Coastal Carolina has scored 33 points per game and allowed 28 points per game so far this year. I don’t see this one being very close as the Ragin Cajuns are clearly the better team and their stats show it. Although Coastal Carolina has been better with Carpenter under center, I have to go with Louisiana in this one. Louisiana-Lafayette wins 38-21 and covers the spread.
